I have had a couple of phone calls from Monologue John Bartley, telling me of the death of Beryl Graham, I think the spelling is correct? who lived in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield and was fine traditional style singer. Beryl was well known in the Sheffield area and in sessions in Fagan's pub ~ a grandmother and who had a cassette of songs (can't find mine at the mo' ~ including Bonny Brookside and I think My youngest son!) backed by George Norris on guitar There is to be a session on Tues 9th July in the Three Cranes, Sheff to remember her 1pm per John Bartley ~ St Joseph's at 11.30am for service more from John Bartley please.

Thanks for passing on the news Ray. Sad though it is. Beryl had a wonderful voice which she sadly lost due to illness and we saw very little of her at festivals after that.

She will be remembered though.
RIP Beryl

It's so sad to hear this news especially as it follows the recent death of Eric Cowell of Brewhouse Music who recorded her Celtic Reflections album. A lovely woman who will be much missed.

Information regarding Beryl Graeme's album:

BERYL GRAEME CELTIC REFLECTIONS: MOTH TO A FLAME (CRTCD0001)

"As a consequence of a rare sarcoid, Beryl Graeme has been unable to sing for eight years. Fortunately, before losing her ability to sing, she recorded some unaccompanied songs for her father at Blank Tape Studios in Sheffield.

In 1999 Brewhouse and Blank Tape co-operated to add backing music and harmony vocals to some tracks. We subsequently produced this beautiful CD of Beryl's haunting voice performing mostly Irish but also some Scottish songs.

All money from sales is divided by The Celtic Reflections Trust equally to two cancer care charities."

Everyone involved with Moth To A Flame gave their time without charge and some financial help from anonymous donors made this CD a reality.

The causes supported are important but this CD is wonderful in its own right.

I see I didn't apply the final quotation mark to the very end of the excerpt.
I also see several copies available of Beryl Graeme's
"Moth to a Flame" album available on eBay in the UK for those who would find it helpful.

My condolences to Beryl's family, friends, and admirers.

Hi Guys

My name is Kai and I am Beryl's granddaughter. Thank you all so much for your kind words, Grandma would have really appreciated them.

Just a few further details if you could pass them on in regards to the funeral.

The requiem mass is at St Joseph's at 11am (St Joseph's Road, Handsworth Sheffield, S13 9AT) followed by a cremation service at City Road Crematorium at 12.15 (City Rd, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S2 1GD)

As Ray said, we will be in the 3 Cranes from 1pm and we will actually be bringing a few copies of Moth to a Flame with us if you would like an original, unopened copy and of course we will donate any of the proceeds to charity.

If you have any photos or messages, we will be having a memory book and Grandma always spoke to highly of everyone in the folk world and we would like to hear your thoughts of her.

If anyone wants to contact me directly my email is kai.elizabeth.bentley@gmail.com. Thanks so much for your time.

I'm very sorry to hear we have lost Beryl though its decades since I last saw her. A lovely singer and very considerate person.
