From: GUEST,Martin Farrell Years ago I read that Nick Kent was about to publish a two part book on the folk revival and Martin Carthy's role in it. It was to be called Prince Heathen. Has it been shelved or is it still a work in progress? Hopefully it's the latter. Thanks in advance for any help. |

It was mentioned in the booklet for Martin's "Carthy Chronicles" box set from 2001 and publication of the first part was then imminent. I've heard nothing about bankruptcy or related legal issues but as nothing has appeared in the subsequent 13 years something drastic has clearly happened to cease or delay publication. Thanks Martin Farrell for the reminder - I'm going to make some enquiries and see what I can find out. |

Author Ken Hunt has a Twitter account now, and the very latest I could find about his work is in his Tweets. I believe the posts I am quoting are January of ... this year? 2021? Could be mistaken about that. "Can confirm I'm writing second (much-gutted) draft of Martin Carthy's approved biography titled Prince Heathen ... There were some most splendiferous (!) developments in Year One of COVID ... Prepare to be pleasantly enlightened with Prince Heathen's illuminations." I have to go back deeper and earlier in Ken Hunt's Twitter Tweets in order to find where he says he has been sitting down with Martin Carthy and working hard at updating everything. So before I do, I shall send this updating post to this thread. |

"Martin Carthy Book" can be taken to mean two things: -- a book authored by someone else, concerning Martin Carthy's life and career, and its significance to the revival of traditional music in England. -- a book on the subject of a specific category of traditional songs, and what the songs illustrate about their time and place, co-authored by two authorities: one an authority on the judicial system and the other, Martin Carthy, an authority on traditional music. So this thread is now going in two directions at once, as these are two very different books. |

From: GUEST,keberoxu For those who may not be aware, Prince Heathen. the Ken Hunt biography of Martin Carthy, has been delayed seriously because of Ken Hunt being treated for cancer, including surgery. He has written at his website that in 2023, he could only read or write for 10 to 30 minutes per day before he would need to rest. Here's hoping Ken Hunt is recovering well and soon writing again. |
