Don't get too excited because it isn't available yet!
But it will be!
A few years ago I wrote to Happy Traum at Homspun Instructional DVDs suggesting that a Nic Jones guitar style instructional DVD would be a good idea.
Happy wrote back and said that he would consider it.
Then, a year or so back I wrote to folk singer/guitarist Sam Carter (after he had put up his excellent youtube video explaining Nic's Canadee-i-o guitar part ) suggesting that he approach Homespun.
Now, of course, with Joe Jones having got a great handle on his dad's guitar style, he would be first choice, along with Nic explaining how he arrived that his arrangements.
Getting Homespun to produce the video would be the best way, I feel, to maximise the sales potential, but if they are not interested then Joe/Nic should produce it themselves.
And, I'd be first in line to get my hands on a copy!

It's an interesting idea. A thought occurs, though: what would you call representative of Nic's guitar style? I've just been dipping into my NJ collection - "Ballads and Songs", "The Noah's Ark Trap", "Nic Jones" and "Penguins Eggs" - and there's quite a variety of stuff being played there.

It's a bit like having a DVD of Davy Graham's guitar style - so varied that I would wonder what to choose...

Not knocking the idea, though - just curious as to the practicalities of the execution.

Well, I wouldn't include anything from his two early albums!
For example, I was listening to "Little Musgrave" on Youtube recently, and it's hard to believe that it's Nic playing the guitar because it is so boringly predictable!
He's simply playing - what we used to call - "clawhammer style".
And, a not very interesting clawhammer at that!
As Ian Anderson pointed out on the TV documentary, Nic went through an amazing change between those first two albums and "Noah's Ark Trap"!
Did he go down to the crossroads, and make a deal with the devil?

Did he go down to the crossroads, and make a deal with the devil?

Given his story, if he did, the devil got the better of it for a time...

Strikes me that any DVD devoted to his playing (Nic's, not the devil's) might perhaps be done as "Nic Jones Arrangements" of specific tunes.

Incidentally, there's an interesting tab page for "Canadee-I-O" here which might be of interest. I haven't checked it thoroughly meself as I'm too lazy to detune/return my guitar, but it might be useful...

Will, I know what you mean about detuning!
I, currently, get as far as dadgad, but listening to Martin Carthy, Sam Carter and Roger Bucknall on the Nic Tv programme, talking about the extra resonance that low tunings provide, I am very tempted to go in that direction.

Another tab here, from a fairly forensic tabber.

I think that the idea is a good one and it should concentrate on the sliding bass technique combined with the rhythmic taps and Nic's son Joe seems to have mastered this amazingly well.
