New song/music session East Yorks

We are hoping to start up an acoustic music/song session in Stamford Bridge (York) running through the non-playing season at the Cricket Pavilion. The first session will be on Saturday 26th October and we are hoping to run on the last Saturday of the month probably until Easter, assuming we have enough takers. At present there will be no booked guests and there will be no entry fee though we might pass the hat around to try to put on some sandwiches on future evenings. This session will be purely acoustic, no amplification or microphones. Please keep an eye on this thread just in case there is an update about the date, time etc.

Suggest you change the thread name to mention Stamford Bridge

Looks like a good one, OlgaJ, so I'll put it in the diary and see if I can make it.
Might be difficult to keep an eye on this thread however, as the Cat is down quite a lot nowadays.

No problem. Keep an eye on the Facebook Page (previous post). I'll post anything important on there. Apparently hardly anyone uses the club during the winter months so even though we will initially be in the bar we shouldn't have too much noise from the locals. I think they run a whist drive in one of the other rooms but that shouldn't interfere with us and I doubt if we will interfere with them. We are primarily a ceilidh band but we ran a couple of very successful singers clubs when we were living in the East Midlands and it would be nice to get the same sort of thing going up here. We'll give it a fair go and see what happens.

Alterego will be hosting a Music and Song Session at the Sports and Social Club (Cricket Pavilion), Low Catton Road, Stamford Bridge YO41 1DZ on Saturday 26th October from around 7.30pm, and after that every last Saturday of the month during the winter months (apart from December). All singers/musicians welcome but please note there will be no amplification so acoustic instruments only please. There will be a bias towards folk but all styles welcome. We are very open minded as far as music is concerned.

Also, just so you are aware, we will be using the bar area which apparently is very quiet during the winter, but we do need to be tolerant of local members who do turn up as they keep the Club going throughout the rest of the year! Hope to see some of you there.

Saturday's a bit dodgy for me Olga, but I'll try and persuade SWMBO that it's her idea, after all we did enjoy dancing to you earlier in the year. Is it the club on the Low Catton Road?
My diary has been noted!

Yes. Its the club at the back of the playing field on Low Catton Road just along from the Village Hall. Hope to see you there.

OK so this didn't work too well last time but apparently it clashed with something else that would draw some of the same people we were hoping to attract. It looks as though there is enough interest to try again on 30th November so we will see how it goes. Sports and Social Club (Cricket Pavilion), Low Catton Road, Stamford Bridge YO41 1DZ from around 7.30.

Sorry Olga - it's our monthly pilgrimage to Brighouse for the Ryburn Threestep dance.

Congrats with your efforts to get this session going. Sounds great. Apologies if I'm suggesting something you've already done, but at the monthly sea chantey sings in San Francisco, an email signup list is passed around, and announcements of each upcoming sing are sent to the list, a good way to build a following and community.

People could sign up for that by pm from this thread if anyone was organising one. It's very easy to do, just one email to write and if the list is a 'group' in your email Contacts, one click (to Blind Circulation to avoid spread email addresses unauthorised) and it's gone.

Should be coming this Saturday with my wife and a couple of other players and have also mentioned it to some people who live in the village who have said that they may pop in for a listen. See you sometime around 7:30

Thanks Nick, it will be good to see you all. We've got a few people on board so it should be a good, cosy little session!
