14 Dec 13 - 11:15 PM (#3584211)
Subject: New ShoreGrass CD: Hummingbird
From: Barbara Shaw

Dropping in for a shameless plug for our latest ShoreGrass CD. This is an unexpected (but welcome) early release of our 4th album. The official planned release (when we're not so BUSY with the holidays!) is 1/1/2014. It's currently available only on our ShoreGrass Band Website but eventually from all online music distributors.

Lineup
Frank Shaw, banjo & vocals, bass on Cradle
Barbara Shaw, guitar & vocals, songwriter (except If I'm Dreaming)
Scott Freemantle, bass
Stacy Phillips, Dobro & fiddle
Paul Pozzi, mandolin & vocals
Dick Drake, harmonica on Not Too Fast, mandolin on Cradle and Preacher Mike
Jonathan Shaw, bass on Preacher Mike
Paul Opalach, piano on Single Flower
Bryant Woods, songwriter on If I'm Dreaming
Recorded by Paul Opalach at Long Hill Recording.

And here's a picture of the cover:

They call us bluegrass, but we're also folk, and there are songs that could pass for Cajun, blues, polka, old-time, early country and swing.

The June 2014 issue of Bluegrass Unlimited published this review of our new CD: (available at CDBaby - Hummingbird - and other nearly true stories)

SHOREGRASS—HUMMINGBIRD—No Label, No Number. This project is a very nice effort featuring the original compositions of Barbara Shaw, along with "If I'm Dreaming" from Bryant Woods. Backing Shaw, who plays guitar, are Frank Shaw (banjo and bass), Scott Freemantle (bass), Stacy Phillips (resonator guitar and fiddle), Paul Pozzi (mandolin), Dick Drake (harmonica and mandolin), Jonathan Shaw (bass), and Paul Opalach (piano). Vocals are shared between Frank Shaw, Paul Pozzi, and Barbara Shaw, as are the harmonies. Selections include "Almost A Full Moon," "Masterpiece," "Never Will Forget," "Not Too Fast," "Don't Send Me Postcards," "Single Flower," "Rest Easy Darlin'," and "Cradle." The Shaws have a nice harmony blend and most of these songs are delivered in the traditional duo or trio approach. The band's arrangements also add a comfortable feature to the tunes. The project has more of a folk/Americana sound rather than traditional bluegrass and is a nice effort from this Connecticut-based group.
