I saw this Donovan song mentioned in another thread and realised that I only know the first verse, has anyone got the rest of it.

I dunno what thread you saw it in Brakn, but I listed it in "Best Love Songs" awhile back, and its still one of my favorites. Glad Allan found you the words. Its also doable as a "forceful lament" if you know what I mean....kind of a pleading thing with some anger/sorrow behind it. Works that way real nice on 12-string.

CATCH THE WIND
As sung by Donovan on his single and on his 1965 album "What's Bin Did and What's Bin Hid" (UK title) a.k.a. "Catch the Wind" (US title)*

In the chilly hours and minutes
Of uncertainty, I want to be
In the warm hold of your lovin' mind,
To feel you all around me
And to take your hand along the sand;
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

When sundown pales the sky,
I want to hide a while behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.
For me to love you now
Would be the sweetest thing; 'twould make me sing;
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

Dee dee dee dee [etc.]

When rain has hung the leaves with tears,
I want you near to kill my fears, (to quell my fear ??)
To help me to leave all my blues behind.
Standin' in your heart
Is where I want to be, and long to be;
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

[* Actually, the album version was a bit different; it was longer and contained a longer harmonica/guitar instrumental break, but the lyrics are the same.]

A few hundred years from now, scholars will study this song and conclude that in our era "wind" was pronounced to rhyme with "mind", "find", and "behind" (which it does, albeit with a different meaning).

CATCH THE WIND

As sung by Donnie Munro

In the chilly hours and minutes
Of uncertainty, I want to be
In the warm hold of your lovin' mind,
To feel you all around me
And to take your hand along the sand;
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

When evening pales the sky,
I want to hide a while behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.
For me to love you now
Would be the sweetest thing; would make me sing;
I may as well try and catch the wind.

na na na na ana [etc.]

Only the first verse is sung and sundown is changed to evening

The original line in the third verse is:
I want you near to quell to my fear

Virtually everyone I've heard sing it in the last 15 years, except me, sings "kill my fear"!
