15 Mar 14 - 10:10 AM (#3609862) Subject: BS: Encouraging Thoughts for Zany Mouse From: GUEST,MCP Zany Mouse has been in hospital for the last few weeks and could do with some cheering thoughts. She collapsed a few weeks ago with a heart rate of 160 and was taken into hospital. The next day her blood pressure dropped to half it's normal value (bad enough for them to call me in) and she spent the next three days in intensive care. (She'd had an eye problem caused by her lupus and nearly lost the sight in her right eye over Christmas. That was being treated with massive doses of steroids and the eye recovered, but they think it effectively shut down her body's own production of steroids and lead to an Addison's crisis. They also think she either had or was very near to a heart attack; they don't seem sure on that point). Anyway, she's medically stable now but still hasn't enough leg power to stand and has to spend the next three to six weeks in a care home getting physio to fix that. Consequently she's feeling a bit disheartened at not being able to get home yet and could do with some cheering up. If you could post and encouraging thoughts for her she'd be grateful. Mick |
15 Mar 14 - 01:01 PM (#3609898) Subject: RE: BS: Encouraging Thoughts for Zany Mouse From: Ebbie Lupus is a mysterious disease. Some get by lightly while others get whammed. I was diagnosed with it in 1966 and again in 1976 as a different phase of it. In '76 it was sent into remission and I really have had no problems with it in the four decades since. So there is hope. Zany Mouse (love your name!), roll with the punches, rest as much as you can, look for the tiniest glimmer of light- it will get bigger and brighter. I think that a very important component of progress in combating this disease is trust in your physicians, if only because oneself is too exhausted to navigate on one's own. There is so much more known about Lupus these days than it was in my time with it. In the 70s I was told that there was only one hospital/teaching facility that devoted itself to it (in Colorado; I was in Oregon) while now there are whole bodies of information. |

Don't beat yourself up over what you *can't* do, but let your mind & spirit relax while you heal. It will come, sure as spring. Focusing in on something - anything - constructive or enjoyable is a good way to do that. All of us here are thinking of you, cheering you on. You'll be back in gear before you know it! Love, B x |

17 Mar 14 - 05:09 AM (#3610185) Subject: RE: BS: Encouraging Thoughts for Zany Mouse From: Bert We used to keep mice. They are quite delicate creatures and if we missed more than one day cleaning out their cages, they were likely to die. We had so many that mostly we didn't give them names, but we did name a special few. There was Mama mouse who always had huge litters and looked after them well. There was Dobermouse because of his black and tan coloring. And George Burns, a tiny little gray one who was very feisty. and YingYang who was half black and half white with a white spot on her black half and a black spot on her white half. Then there was Vacuum, who got sucked up by accident and came out looking very dazed and dusty, but recovered quite well. So clean out Zany's cage, give her clean food and water and make sure that her wheel doesn't squeak. |

I went into hosp with a mild dusting of snow on the ground and came home in very bright sunshine. I am very slowly improving but I have a long way to go yet. I can get out and about in the car/wheelchair/mobility scooter but our house was NOT made for invalids and we either have to move to a bungalow or install a stairlift/ramps etc. Many, many thanks for all your kind thoughts and wishes. They reached me (via Mick) on a day when I was particularly down after a fall during physio. Good luck to all. Luv Rhiannon |
