BS: An atheist commercial

I love it. Ron Reagan has a commercial for atheists. The Freedom From Religion Foundation. And that it was filmed by someone named Reagan? It makes you wonder if it will ever run on Fox News. The last line is my favorite:

See commercial here

A commercial for a Free Love Foundation would be more interesting.

Ron is an interesting, smart guy, but I wish he hadn't done such a 'direct' ad. Defense can be better that offense in some areas, and speaking out against fundamentalist attempts to force religion down folks throats seems to me a better way..... but *shrug*, maybe it will call attention to the issue.

not sure what freedom from religion means ! aside from, imo, atheism IS a religious position, theism has certainly not imprisoned reagon, or even prevented him making an atheist advert.
on the other hand there are quite a few ideologically atheist states that do imprison believers for advertising their faith, or sometimes even for practising it quietly.

Atheism is an unfortunate word as it casts into negative something that is very positive. In this sense it's like the term Non-Smoker. Non-Smoking and Atheism are DEFAULT positions, they are also very good for both body and soul. Humanity was Not-Smoking, and Not-Believing in God for millions of years until the unfortunate happenstance whereby in smoking too much weed we hallucinated God and saw both as a good way of making money and keeping people miserable though addiction to religious delusion.

The equation is a simple one : Atheism is not a delusion - so how can it be religious?

Radical propaganda often has the effect of uniting all those who do not totally agree. Boko Haram has the merit that moderate Moslems ally with non-Moslems in Nigeria.

"..not sure what freedom from religion means !"

Well Pete, it is the logical position that is implied when the phrase "freedom OF religion" is used. If everyone is implicitly granted the right to worship as they please, this must be understood to mean that everyone's beliefs are personal and independent.
"Freedom OF religion" must not be interpreted to mean that someone must have a religion... especially not some specific religion. Thus, the phrase perhaps should be "freedom of thought and the consequent freedom to practice certain thoughts & beliefs.... as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others".

My characterization of this would be: 'If we all woke up one day to find 99.9999% of all humans were NON-religious, and there were, say, only 127 Christians left, those 127 should not be restricted in their beliefs.' 'Likewise, if there were 99.9999% Christians, the 127 non-believers should also be respected and tolerated'. (I ignore the various other possibilities to shorten the point.)

In reality, I suspect that humans being what they are, neither ideal situation would prevail. I especially doubt that billions of Christians would tolerate 127 atheists/non-believers.

In the USA, our Constitution formally recognizes this point (no restrictions ON religious practice and no requirement FOR religious practice).... but many are, even today. working to get certain forms of (mostly fundamentalist Protestant) religion accepted as the norm and semi-official.
So- "freedom FROM religion" is a position- not a religion in and of itself.

naawww, GfS... we are just NON-belief police. . You may 'believe' anything you wish. We just step in when anyone seems to be suggesting that non-belief needs to be named, categorized or investigated.

Lemme see your ID...

"regulatory restrictions on love???" Ummm... that's a current problem in a number of states. I assume you are working hard to de-regulate who can love whom?

Na-a-a-www, more like how much one is allowed to love before it looks like a 'symptom' of one's faith.
