31 May 14 - 01:05 PM (#3629354) Subject: Lyr Req: Blekinsop Major From: GUEST,Muircheartaigh Hello All, Many years ago I used to know a parody of Burlington Bertie (Itself a parody of an earlier song) entitled Blenkinsop Major. After much brain racking I've managed to piece together the first verse which goes: I'm Blenkinsop Major, Debrett's has a page for M' people and so does Who's Who. I've a rich pater, an elegant mater, M' blood's deepest blue through and through. I've been to Eton, which secures me a seat on The bench or the Woolsack, I've something that fools lack It's wealth, wealth, breeding and health, They add up to something you know. For the poor don't go boatin', Or have Latin to quote in And it keeps them confoundedly low. All I remember of the second verse (I don't think there were more) was the wonderful couplet: Outside the pavilion there's many a million Whom no one could possibly know. That's all my memory can come up with. I've scoured the net without finding even a hint of it. Does anyone else know more? Michael |

It appears in an anthology called Great Spy Stories from Fiction edited by Allen Dulles (New York: Harper & Row, [1969]) Not that Allen Dulles, is it? Yes, I think it is. Don't know if it's connected to the song in any way. Coincidence? |
