22 Jul 14 - 08:27 PM (#3644391) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: Janie He posted this to the "what song do you want at your funeral" thread, back in 2001. "LAY DOWN YOUR WEARY TUNE- Bob Dylan Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. Struck by the sounds before the sun, I knew the night had gone. The morning breeze like a bugle blew Against the drums of dawn. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. The ocean wild like an organ played, The seaweed's wove its strands. The crashin' waves like cymbals clashed Against the rocks and sands. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. I stood unwound beneath the skies And clouds unbound by laws. The cryin' rain like a trumpet sang And asked for no applause. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. The last of leaves fell from the trees And clung to a new love's breast. The branches bare like a banjo played To the winds that listened best. I gazed down in the river's mirror And watched its winding strum. The water smooth ran like a hymn And like a harp did hum. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. Spaw |

As an aside, I was looking at some poems of mine that I had posted on my fb page....and found one that he had commented on....in his typical snarky way. Made me miss him more. |

I can not figure out how to download Derek Brimstone' song. I would love to have it at the memorial. Any suggestion's. I am so grateful Pat had so many good friends on Mudcat. 24 Jul 14 - 08:11 PM (#3645016) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: GUEST Karen- If others here can't help you download Derek Brimstone's song in time for this weekend, you could always play it at the YT link, with your tape recorder or some such set up close by. I see Derek is on FB, so you may be able to contact him directly. He has been known to visit Mudcat- not sure whether he is a member, in which case you could send him a PM. Anyone else have a better solution? Maeve |
24 Jul 14 - 08:22 PM (#3645020) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: maeve Sorry- Last two posts were from me...cookie crumbled. I've sent a PM to Big Al Whittle hoping he can help with "We Both Had a Very Good Time". Maeve |

25 Jul 14 - 06:46 AM (#3645128) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: Janie I can't drive up, Karen, though I would love to. What I would like to do is set aside that time to take a pause, maybe touch base with Cletus, Burford and crew, blow up a shed in the back yard, or sumpin' - join the memorial through the ether, so to speak. |
25 Jul 14 - 06:52 AM (#3645131) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: Janie err....Buford - lucky, Buford can't spell his own name, either. |
25 Jul 14 - 06:16 PM (#3645325) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: Jeri I know he loved Bob Dylan's Dream (That's Rod McDonald, not the Bob, who probably has good lawyers.) I don't know if Pat ever heard it, and Sam Amidon likely wasn't a favorite, but this is for the rest of us, just because I really like this (I heard it this morning for the first time): My Old Friend, Sam Amidon. |
25 Jul 14 - 06:26 PM (#3645328) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: Jeri As for songwriters, in his own words: GREAT THREAD!!! I join lots of others in Woody, Dylan,Patrick Sky, A.P.Carter, early Lightfoot, John Prine, Harlan Howard, Paul Simon {says he writes around rhythms, but what a "wordsmith"}, Stephen Foster, Jean Ritchie, Tom Petty, Leonard Cohen, Richard Farina, Arlo, James Taylor..... Fixed, after Jeri copied the wrong guy's post in here, and forgot the link to the thread. -Mod |

27 Jul 14 - 02:20 AM (#3645559) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: Janie Just listened, Jeri. You really nailed it. Pat was such a good friend to so many people. And Karen, he made so clear and said often that you were absolutely his very best friend and the love of his life. Thank you for sharing him with us. {{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}} |
27 Jul 14 - 04:54 AM (#3645590) Subject: RE: Music for Catspaw's Memorial From: BlueJay As an only occasional lurker, this is the first that I have heard of Catspaw's passing, and I would be remiss not to respond. I the early 2000's I communicated with Spaw regularly, and even though I kind of dropped off, he remembered me on the occassions that I did post. As a nurse, I followed Spaw's medical problems through the years. We shared many interests, including Guild 12 strings. I am deeply saddened by this news. I can only say that he is now playing and singing with KatLaughing! As far as songs, I cannot add to what the loyal Mudcatters have provided. RIP Spaw, and bless you Karen. You are truely an angel. Thanks, BlueJay |
