BS: Sharknado

31 Jul 14 - 12:02 AM (#3646810)
Subject: BS: SHARKNADO
From: LadyJean

You would think I'd know better than to have Sharknado on, but I do. It's about sharks eating people in New York. As opposed to the previous Sharknado that was about sharks eating people in California.

But, I thought I'd issue a mudcat challenge.

Finish this sentence. I saw "Sharknado" and________________

I'm sure I'll get some creative responses.

I looked at some clips and just about died laughing! It is intentionally bad, and they did a splendid job of it. Honestly, folks, lighten up a bit! Laughter helps your body release healing endorphins. Eh,whatever.

Come on, let's have a round of applause for gleefully stupid trash horror low budget [s]exploitation movie makers.

It takes real creative intelligence to make such utterly ridiculous lurid nonsense.

Long may they continue to put idiot grins on our faces...

Check out "Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl"

I watched the YouTube clip. I think I'll give it a pass.

"Jaws" some years back was about all I needed to know about Sharks. After watching it, I contemplated getting myself a cabin up it the mountains....

Chief Brody to Quint, the shark hunter: "You're gonna need a bigger boat...."

Clicky.

Naw, I'll be watching "Foyle's War" on my local PBS affiliate, followed by "Midsomer Murders." That's more than enough mayhem for me....

Watched "Larkrise to Candleford" last night. Dorcas Lane turned down Dowland's proposal of marriage, and it turned out that young Laura had not been fired from the Candleford post office, as she had feared.

Raining sharks? Naw, I don't think so....

My semantic curiosity leads me to wonder whether it is pronounced as

"Shark nay do"

or, as it might be put,

"Sharknado about nothing"

???

Ah -- OK; looked it up on Wiki & found it is a portmanteau word meaning "tornado full of sharks": so hence, I gather, it must be

"Shark nay dough"

OK. Curiosity satisfied.

As you were, everybody.

Can't feel myself rushing to watch the movie, mind...

In the works:

Sharknado 3.

Hmmmm.... Maybe the tornado will pick up monkeys next time. Flying monkeys anyone? Or even hogs. It can be called "When Pigs Fly".

Even worse, last night 4Music (UK channel 18) was showing "Two headed shark attack". The few seconds I saw showed an obviously latex shark devouring the usual bikini babes!
My favourite in this genre is one of the many Piranha movie where the CGI fish seem to be wearing human dentures!

If they're going to do sharks, they're missing a bet by not going back a million and a half years. Imagine a Great White shark the size of a sperm whale!

Such a critter did exist: Megaladon.

This is not the whale shark, which is getting up there in size, but it's a fairly placid critter and it's essentially toothless. It cruises along with its mouth open. It's a plankton sifter, time some whales. Essentially harmless, just big.

Megaladon has teeth. Take a look at this monster: Clicky.

There are some marine biologists that maintain that there is evidence the a few Megalodons still exist. Hunts for the monster have not turned up any, but they've turned up evidence that they say is "promising."

And then, of course, there is the giant squid. The claim is that they live about 5,000 down, and there is quite a bunch of them in the depths of the Indian Ocean in particular.

The favorite meal of the sperm whale is giant squid. The favorite meal of the giant squid is sperm whale, who dive to depths of 5,000 feet looking for lunch. Some pretty titanic battles take place in the depths of the ocean. Whalers have seen rows of sucker scars on sperm whales the size of dinner plates.

Lotsa great movie monster potential out there…..

I have never seen (nor wanted to see) Sharknado BUT apparently the producer was very impressed recently with a very low budget film my husband is in, which is a film called "Granny of the Dead", to the extent that in the opening credits it now has the producer of Sharknado listed as "Executive Producer". We're hoping it might help with distribution. If you like low budget (and funny) zombie films try to get "Granny of the Dead" to your local favourite cinema and look out for the cameo role of the postman (which is my husband, who luckily for me doesn't normally look the way he looks for much of the rest of the film).
