Review: The Soundtrack Of A Photograph Blog

Subject: Review: The Soundtrack Of A Photograph Blog
From: irishenglish

Hello all-donkey's years since I posted anything on here but I wanted to share my newest venture, which is a blog called The Soundtrack Of A Photograph. It explores My Music, My Photographs, And My Thoughts. I take an artist or song and match up my photos to it. So far I have written about Ralph McTell, Jimmy Castor, Indigo Girls, Chris Trapper, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and soul music, Oysterband, Ahab, Bob Seger, Fairport Convention, and my latest one is about Johnny Cash. You can find the introductory blog here, in which I explain the idea and click all the links from there. Cheers

Hi, Irishenglish-

You seem to violate all the conventions, and then come up with photographs that are absolutely stunning. I thought I was a pretty good photographer, but I'm humbled looking at your work. I think I'm going to have to work harder at violating the rules.
I am in awe.

The "I got sheep, I got hogs..." that Johnny Cash used is directly from Lead Belly's recording of ROCK ISLAND LINE. Just thought I would let you know.

Thank you Mark. I am aware of course aware of Lead Belly's recording that part on some of his versions of Rock Island Line (I have two versions by him one has that part, one doesn't). In attributing the songs at the bottom of the blog, as I do for every song featured on my blog I used the attribution that appears on the Johnny Cash recordings of the song, which is arranged by Johnny Cash.

I have a tech problem with your site.
You may need to consider compatibility issues.

The upper black 'Home' Navigation Strip [My Photos, My Music, My Thoughts, etc]
dominates more than half of my screen.
Effectively leaving only approx 2" available to try to view your content.
This basically renders your site unusable in it's present format.

I'm running Win 7 on an elderly 17" CRT monitor - Screen resolution 800 x 600.
Tried and tested optimum compromise settings for my equipment and aging eyesight.

Hope this helps.

Also, my browser is Chrome.
If I reduce the 'zoom' in setttings to below 75 - 50 %
it helps to some extent, but the text then becomes far too small to read.

You need to deal with the compatibility issues of your obsolete equipment, GUEST. Why don't you use IE and toggle "compatibility mode." That should take care of it.

Thank you Guest for that feedback. I have not heard anyone else having those sort of compatibility problems but I will see if there is anything I can (or should) do to tweak it. Cheers.

I just realized I missed posting Part 15 of this blog about Hot Club Of Cowtown.

You can find that one from links on the home page but I would like to announce the introduction and first part of a four part blog series-My Four Seasons. Today is spring, and the next three days will bring the next three seasons. You can find them both right here-

Just a note of interest - I Googled "Hot Tub of Cowtown" - it says they "hail from Austin," but that Cowtown moniker belongs to Fort Worth, where I live. There is a famous western swing club in the Stockyards, but otherwise this town isn't as famous as Austin for Texas music. I see nothing in the US about them so they must be living an ex-pat existence. Let us know if you see anything about them returning to the US for a tour. I enjoyed the clips you posted.

Thanks for that correction SRS and glad your enjoyed it. The members of Hot Club all hail from other places but it is my understanding that they all live in or around the Austin area now. Whit Smith and Elana James have both released solo albums recently, and the band continues to tour all over the country and the world currently.

Faded America-Music by Los Lobos-https://robpatdoy.wordpress.com/2015/09/17/soundtrack-of-a-photograph-faded-america/

And I also began a new shorter series called Photo Shuffle. I set my Ipod to shuffle and let it choose a song I pair with one of my photos. So far the shuffle has picked Little Feat, The Traveling Band, Runrig and The Band. You can find all of those right here-https://robpatdoy.wordpress.com/category/photo-shuffle/

Phil Alvin's County Fair-https://robpatdoy.wordpress.com/2016/02/27/soundtrack-of-a-photograph-photo-shuffle-13/

And a new series I'm excited for-The Scandinavian Cowboy. Its a new feature exploring what I believe is a connection between Scandinavian folk music and some of the tunes of the American West. My theory is that it isn't just the typical English/Scottish/Irish connections that formulated some of that music, but also some of the music from Scandinavia.https://robpatdoy.wordpress.com/2016/02/29/the-scandinavian-cowboy/

Falling down on the job here! Here's not one, but two posts. First up is part of my Photo Shuffle series, where I let my Ipod choose the song I pair with a photo. This time its a great old song by Bruce Cockburn-I'm Gonna Fly Someday-
https://robpatdoy.wordpress.com/2016/05/19/soundtrack-of-a-photograph-photo-shuffle-11/

Next is one slightly different, inspired by a trip to the Noguchi Museum (just down the block from where we live) awhile back. His sculptures are always a treat to see, but this time it was hearing the pianist Sarah Cahill, performing work from Mamoru Fujieda, whose compositions Patterns Of Plants were essentially created by the impulses of plants themselves.
