If you search here on "Loughrea", you may find the songs involved. Not really a macaronic but two related songs , one in Irish, one in English. I'll get back with more detail tomorrow, if possible. Did a search for "Loughrea" and there are elements of the song I'm talking about mentioned in the lyrics for Lady of Loughrea (http://mudcat.org/Detail.CFM?messages__Message_ID=2432589) and The Pretty Girls of Loughrea (http://mudcat.org/Detail.CFM?messages__Message_ID=2617976) but no trace of the Irish in the English of either song so perhaps you're right about Jimmy Connolly's version being, in fact, two different songs.
