Just curious as I will be spending four nights in Bournemouth later in the month (21-24 September) whether there is anything folkie happening on those dates?

Guitar special at Bournemouth folk club, Ocean View Hotel on Sunday 21st (with Will McNicol). Free entry informal evening at Ringwood folk club on 23rd, if that's any help!

No folk club at the "Goat and Tricycle" any more ?? What is Bournemouth coming to ? ....it is bad enough not being in Hampshire any more , either !

Try the Acoustic Calendar for Wessex, look under 'Dorset' for the dates you're in the area.

re the 'Goat and Tricycle', 11 April this year saw the 50th anniversary of the founding of the folk club at the (original name) Pembroke Arms. More than 50 people attended, many coming considerable distances to be there. The room's still there and is a much better state of decoration these days.

Idon't know who you are ,"Guest" , but I used to live in Southcote Road before moving to "The Old Brewhouse" in Christchurch, where I worked as Stage Door Keeper at the Regent Centre. My partner at that time,an artist, played mandola (I played guitar) and we frequented the G&T (I remember it as the Pembroke Arms too !) , The George in Christchurch and the Blue Boar in Poole (and the Coventry Arms) .I knew Ted Davies , Pete Minkey , Bob Kirkpatrick, the guy who played the big continental chromatic "Bugari" accordion ( forgotten his name , but he had glasses !......Happy days from 1976 'til early 21st century !

Makes sense now, Roger. I was there from 1964 as one of the four founding members but moved away in 1975 for work. When I returned in 1980 my new job involved a longish commute and I had little to do with the local folk scene. Eventually joined a folk dance band and that took care of the next 18 years. Nowadays I'm very active as a singer-guitarist in the Bournemouth-Poole area.

Pity you weren't aware of the reunion - we tried to contact everyone we could.

By the way, was the accordionist named Richard?
