Help: Mom's coming - Need lyric/music sites

From: Singout (sail)

When my mom is here for holidays, we always have a computer sing along as there are no musicians in the family. I have Barry Taylors site. I know there are more. I have lost one I had that someone in their 80s would enjoy--think it was something like old popular piano songs.

Hope everyone hasn't gone away for the weekend and can post some additional sites we can try tomorrow.

Thanks. Penny

I have the same question...just introduced my Mom (89 yrs)to my computor(89 yrs.)and gave her a tour of Mudcats and Mudcats' radio.....wondering if anyone has info on piano songs...1920's-1940's...sing alongs etc. She just said she'd like to sing along with "Barney Google"..used to play it on the piano....(help she's singing..."Doodle-de-doo" ....has a line..."part I like best is Doodle-de-doo"...she can't remember the rest of the lyrics. She's trying to remember songs she used to sing and play during the time that Hoover and Al Smith were campaigning for President-1928/1929. Singout....maybe we can put our Mom's together and let the two of them have a singalong!!

Hi,

I found Barney Google here, but alas, no words. It also requires Real Audio but is worth it. (You should have it anyway to hear the Mudcat Radio!)

I like to use the MIDI Search Engine to find a specific song. Many times the page I find a good MIDI file on has lots of others I like.

Another good site for searching is here.

Good luck. I've had lots of fun sending jokes and songs to my 82 year old uncle.

Mary

I gather it's MIDIs you're looking for, but in case you're looking for lyrics, you can find many of the "old standards" at Rabid Squirrel's Jazz Archive.

Hi, Penny.....

One place I love is Don Ferguson's barbershop site at:

Don Ferguson's Barbershop Pages

It has GOOD MIDIs, chords, dates, author info and links to the sheet music.

A gold mine!........Tiger

Thanks you all. Fortunately I had printed something from the site I was looking for, and after a major closet cleaning/searching expedition this morning, I found it!

http://www.bright.net/~mrbanjo/ This site is popular songs from the 1900s on for singing along with.

Another site with midis is http://ingeb.org/folksong.html

A good site for lyrics only is #1 songs from 1930-1999 at http://www.summer.com.br/~pfilho/html/top1/index.html

Well, we're all set for the day! Penny

Well, you NEVER have too many, so here are a few without much comment. Just explore.

http://parlorsongs.com/ My favorite.

http://midiforum.com/brtubb/ No, this one's my favorite.

http://www.perfessorbill.com/index1.htm Uhh, OK, I give up.

http://primeshop.com/midilist.htm I will comment that while this one is good for ragtime tunes, it does not have lyrics.

Hey, Tiger, looking at your test thread made me think you would be here, and reminded me to collect some of my favorites, too.

Oh, one more that I forgot, but shouldn't have. http://www.contemplator.com/folk.html Lesley's site of REALLY GOOD STUFF!
