Mudcatter Dharmabum-- Bypass!?!?

From Br'er Ron at FB:

"Scheduled for bypass surgery tomorrow morning.
Went in for a stress test yesterday morning, haven't left the hospital yet. I guess it couldn't have happened in a better place. They transported me to
Morrristown Memorial last night. I hear they've got one of the best cardiac teams in the state.
Thanks for all the prayers & wishes.
I'll be back.
Ron."

Wow... not fun, but those things are pretty routine these days... let him know he's in our thoughts.

He's a great guy. No, it couldn't have happened in a better place, or at a better time (BEFORE "the big one").
You'll be in my thoughts, Ron.

The news came pretty suddenly. Thankfully, he has good family around for support!

same thing five months ago for me ... feel great. You will be a new person. All my prayers. It really wasn't a bad surgery. My back and neck was far worse pain wise. I didn't hurt much at all afterwords

As Jeri said, very glad this is happening before "the big one." Still scary to have by-pass surgery, even knowing it is pretty routine with good outcomes.

Will be holding you in my thoughts and meditations.

Kendall went through the same thing (3 bypass) almost eleven years ago and he's still doing really well.

Good thoughts coming from Maine for a full and fast recovery.

Yup, my dad had triple bypass at 65 & his heart was still going strong when he died of other causes at 86. Thanks, dear!

There is no news so far, tho I did learn that the surgical plan was to take all five blockages he'd posted about in three bypasses. Of course it's never possible, ahead of opening the chest, to know exactly what should be done. For example once they see the tie-dyed colors and huge heart in there, they may realize all he really needs is special pixie dust, but I know he can use the rest a surgical recovery requires. So it may be awhile before he posts here or at FB.

I hope to get updates from family. Just keep holding him softly, folks.

He may also need (for later, think stitches) his own joke thread. I think he is the best joke-teller I've ever known and no doubt he'll appreciate a few especially twisted ones in his honor. Somebuddy wanna start one?

OK. Update ok'd from family is that Ron went into the OR abt noon Mudcat time. Family waiting nearby. They were told it'll be about 4-5 hrs, and they will update me to share as needed.

Please also be thinking about Ron's mom. She's pretty frail now and he has been one of her primary caregivers, staying with her when not up here at his cabin. Ron's surviving daughter has also had a tough year and has little kids that are very important to their old uncle Ron. I am not sure yet where Ron's son is-- dunno if he lives nearby-- but it has to be surreal gathering for this surgery, so soon after Shalisa's memorial.

Ron's daughter checked in, this morning. No bad news posted on Facebook. I'm hoping that means his first night after surgery was uneventful. Word, last night, was that they'd keep him in Recovery for today & then see about transferring him to a regular room for a few days. After that, remains to be seen, based on his condition--maybe Rehab, maybe home.

PS looking at Ron's FB page where he has been quite active of late (less here), I noticed a number of updates from his daughter Cassie. That's gonna be a better source of info than any of us can summarize here.

I also noticed friends there posting cheery thoughts directly to him there-- makes sense as FB has foto tools we lack here. If yer not on FB yet this is one of the best reasons to think about joining.

Problems with mudcat? Just tried to add to this thread. Let's see if 2nd time's the charm! Four days after his surgery, Ron is expecting to head home from the hospital, today (Monday)! His recovery has been smooth & uneventful, so far. Great news! Let's hope he can be patient enough to keep from overexerting himself, as his body heals!

best,

Tell him to get himself into a cardiac rehab program (once his docs ok it) with remote ekg devices and treadmills and rowing machines and stationary bikes and nurses with Marine Corps drill instructor training on top of their nursing college. You can end up feeling a lot better and younger than before you went through the whole thing, if you're willing to stick to that program.

Well, to say it's been a crazy week would be an understatement.
Went in for a stress test last Tuesday & didn't return home until yesterday.
I'm thank full the problems manifested while I was at the hospital.
5 Bypasses & some pretty major incisions on the mend.
6 To 8 weeks recoup before I start cardiac rehab.
Really looking forward to regaining my energy.
Thanks to all of you for the kind words & positive / healing thoughts being sent my way. Doing my best to put it to good use.
My daughter is, & has been my strongest advocate & I'm so glad she's been here for me.

Glad to be home.
Very happy to be here.

Ron.
