I hope this won't upset Admiral but its all over Face Book , and I feel the World of Mudcat folk should all be informed that the delightful Pearl went to the sing above on the 21st of February . R I P one of the nicest ladies on the UK scene .

There will be a much-missed Pearl-shaped hole at many festivals, not to mention Maidenhead folk club. So sorry that she has been taken from us so early.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I have good memories of the time spent with her and Tony on my UK trips. My thoughts are with all who are directly affected by her passing.

I shall play my Port & Brandy tape and narrowboat trip DVDs in rememberance of friendship, tolerance and assistance to a wandering, visiting Yank......

Thanks for adding it T. I was about to myself. I'm sure Tony won't mind as there are lots of Folk who will not know of this sad loss by other means.

Devastated by this news - I only heard she was ill two days ago.   A delightful, kind, unpretentious, generous lady. I'm so sad for Tony.

This is sad news and a big shock.   I had not seen Pearl since our Pigfoot gig at Knowl Hill in 2009.   As well as being a lovely lady,
she was very generous in granting gigs to humble, basic performers like myself and my musical friends.   It was through Pearl that Pigfoot got to play at one of our all-time favourite gigs - the Stanford-In- The-Vale Festival in 1990.
She had a great personality and this will be a big loss to the folk scene as well as to her loved ones.

Another light gone out, another star in the heavens. A lovely, kind caring woman who gave the folk world far more than it ever knew just by being there.
Hang on in there Tony.

When we settled near Maidenhead, she took us under her wing, we very soon took her to our hearts where she remains, she was kind, generous and terrific fun. With love David & Alison x

What a shock - I hadn't heard she was ill - brought me up quite short to read this. Tony, I wish there was something I could say - she was always so warm to me, a comparative stranger, and especially after Cele lost her bout with the big C just over a year ago. Thinking of you a lot.

I can hardly believe it. She seemed so well and full of life at Grove last year.
Gill and I had no idea that she was ill and send our condolences to Tony.
She was always so kind and friendly towards us, and made every singaround seem like a party.

Howard.

The singarounds will not be the same in so many places - nor the welcome to so many "singaround virgins". So sad to hear the news, and thoughts go out to Tony. Once heard, never forgotten - could have been written for her!
"You get a whole lotta woman, and that's a fact"
Sleep well, Pearl.

A sort of Farewell to Pearl at Maidenhead tonight . An excellent turn out with the regulars and enough 'old friends' to make a full evening of memories .

So sudden and so terribly sad. Pearl was always so wonderfully warm and welcoming at any singaround; a truly lovely person and gone far too soon.

message from the Admiral
The Ceremony is to be Humanist and is to be held at Easthampstead Crematorium, (South Road, Nine Mile Ride, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 3DW) at 14.15 on March 17th. 2015.
The more astute amongst you will note that it is also Pearl's Birthday and that I have called the occasion a 'Celebration' because both Pearl and I want it to be joyous. So I am asking all who come (no invitation required, loving Pearl the only qualification) to come dressed in happy clothes as though for a party (no black please) and prepared to laugh at happy memories and sing with gusto. There will be tears but I hope they will happy tears.
The Wake is to be held at SportAble (formerly WAMSAD), Braywick Sports Ground,
Maidenhead. SL6. 1BN. (Real Ale Bar) from about 16.45 until 23.00. Please bring instruments and singing voices as well as those happy memories. Park in the Car Park on your right as you enter the Sports Ground and walk the 200 yards or so to the SportAble venue. For those less able there are car parks closer to the venue but you will have obtain a Parking Permit to place in the car from SportsAble reception. There will be a Book of Remembrance which I want you all to comment in.
Please feel free to pass this on to all concerned.
In Loving Remembrance of Mrs Pearl Mary O'Neill.

OK, it's a few years ago but dear PEARL is still missed. Like me, many of you will be reminded of her by the odd comments that people make and by hearing songs that she used to sing. What has prompted me to write this so long after we lost her is that I've just been asked to sing "She was Poor but she was Honest," by a fellow member at The Nova Scotia Folk Club, Bishopbriggs. If I do get through it without a tear it will be a miracle.
A friend at the club sang "The Parting Glass" a few weeks ago and both Helen and I had tears in our eyes. (So much so that I felt I had to explain to Rona why we were so affected.)
