Alice if you plan to hang around...think a little more...dink a little less.

The REAL issue is...can it solve the question/debate of "the firey and snuffy are rarin' to go."

Dear gargoyle, I don't drink. I have read some intelligent messages regarding music that you posted in the past, but it is puzzling when you get in this kind of mood.

Hey Alice...He didn't say you drink! He said you "dink." Now personally I'm a big fan of dinkin' around on a nice breezy day....nothing like messing around in boats is there? Now as for drinking..........

Garg, ya' gotta' lay off that fuckin' home brew or the shit's gonna' make your ass null and void.....and the trip is getting shorter as time passes. Now I admit ya' got talent motherfucker....you got a real career writing for the neo-nazi, survivalist rags if you should decide to go that way. But your simpleass, drunken, ramblings are becoming so wonderfully humorous that if you weren't such a bigoted, racist, chauvinistic, homophobic, pathetic, cocksucker, I know you'd win a prize for creative writing while being piss drunk on homey-hooch. If you had a few extra bucks you could start a new website for Bi-Polar/Manic Depressive Anal Retentives. So kick back and stick a lump of coal up your shriveled fuckin' ass and get to that diamond making. Couple of days, you'll be richer than Bill Gates.

Love ya' Alice...let's Tango at the tavern til dawn.

Kinda strange, Spaw: first you translate for Alice to show her that Gargoyle was in a playfu--not nasty--mood...and then you jump on him with hobnailed boots. Talk about bi-polar...

Mea Culpa again!!!

I hoped no one would notice when I dropped a little "g" within the string of letters.

...then again it is still another way to retain "identity" within the folds of "anonymity" and hinder the "tracking of threads." Thanks for the observation.

Reading this thread in the cold light of Sunday afternoon, a couple of issues spring to mind.
1. Whilst Max is away.............!!!
2.Has anyone else noticed that there are multiple gargoyles?, Some can spell, others can't, some are obviously talented and knowlegeable about music, others are more concerned about encouraging others to toe the line of music only threads, avoiding the necessity of exposing a personality to the community?
3. Not an issue, but why am I laying myself wide open to another onslaught, when I know it will upset me again?
What's Welsh for masochist? Bron.

I think it's one attention-seeking gargoyle with mood swings and varying degrees of inebriation. He also seems to hate BS enough to visit all the threads and do his best to ensure the BS continues, only with him as a subject. Perverse, isn't it?

Catspaw, sorry I didn't get back to you: I was composing a long response to Gargoyle in the From Pills to Purge Melancholy thread--I'd spent an hour and a half on it, then backed up to check on the name of the Complaint Generator thread and couldn't find my way back to my yet uncompleted message...I started again but decided to wait until real morning (it was after 2 a.m.), left Mudcat and played a few games of solitaire to ease my tension, and finally got to bed after three. The dogs woke me at about 8 a.m., demanding to be fed (how unreasonable of them--their usual breakfast time was only in the past by an hour and a half), I acceded to their demand, then went back to bed. After a half hour, having failed to get back to sleep, I got up, played with them a while then got a new start on the Gargoyle letter and Tomie (my wife) wanted to go to breakfast, we did, I took the dogs for a walk, got back to work on the letter, this time writing it on the word processor so I could save as I went, spent another hour trying to reconstruct what I had lost last night, finally finished and posted it at about 2 p.m. (PST). Anyway, it's there--you may want to read it since I made reference to you a few times (are you still with me after that long pointless narrative?). Enjoy.

I watched a couple of Alan Lomax's "American Patchwork" programs on PBS a few years ago, and was vacillating between being amused and embarassed by his use of subtitles when recording conversations with old black blues musicians. It's sort of condescending...but, then, the mostly white, yuppie audience for the films probably NEEDED subtitles!

Hi Rick, I'm sure if Roger can come up with Black Country dialect it will beat your challenge. Remember being in a pub in Netherton years ago and there was an elderly couple at the next table. Couldn't understand a word they were saying and I was born less than 10 miles away. (Great pub - 8 foot deep, cast iron stove in corner and Victorian enamel tiles on ceiling - The White Swan, I believe)

Kendall, I got one that's right up your alley, or downeast your alley as the case may be.

I went to visit friends in 1970 who were living in Wells Branch, just south of Kennebunkport. They had an unlisted phone and 600 miles from home, I realized I'd forgotten it. It was stuck on the wall of my place in Kentucky and I was north of Boston. But no problem I thought, I'll just check around town. I arrive in Wells and everything is closed or closing, so I end up going to the police station. At the desk I tell the policeman on duty my problem.

I wish that I could relate the "conversation" to you. I can't. We were both speaking English I think. I know this to be true because after a few minutes of "What?" and "Eh?" and other noises, we ended up WRITING notes across the desk.

I found my friends but I wonder if the policeman ever knew I said "Thanks." I should have written it down.

They don't even have very strong accents in that part of Maine, Spaw. I had a good friend who's brother-in-law, wife, kids, dog and assorted drunken friends lived up in Wells Branch, in a sort of hippie redneck community, and...nah, that'd be too much of a coincidence. Anyway, I could understand them, but had a problem when I went waaay downeast (or upnorth). Three times through the sentence usually worked.

Shows you what a hayseed I was/am, Jeri. I did find plenty of other people I could talk to, but this guy was really and totally not understandable to me....nor I to him. True story!!!

And yeah....hippie type friends, living in a 140 year old farmhouse owned by Rodney Wells. Barry was teaching at a private school set up by early yuppies "going back to the land"--meaning a new house on an acre with a Land Rover.
