If someone gets more, they do. What an odd thread? Unless someone commits a crime that conviction demands disqualification or does something that makes their position untenable, we let the people decide in a vote. By all means publicise their good and bad points but your post sounds disrespectful to the voters, who will decide. If enough want her, that's tough on those who don't like her and good for those who do. I have no idea myself and like 99.99% of Mudcat readers, not directly affected. If she is your MP, tell her how you feel. |

I doubt that name will affect those who voted for her who might vote for her again. After all, you vote generally for a party rather than a personality. We have a Tory MP who impresses me as a constituency worker, (he has delivered on rural broadband funding from The EU, business development funding that has led to an old airfield nearby that now employs over 2,000 people and lots of other bits. I like him. But I couldn't vote for a party that would try to leave Europe and trust social infrastructure to the private sector. So those who vote for her? Possibly voting for Cameron and Osborn anyway. You missed the boat in getting her deselected by her local party. She rides on the confidence or otherwise of the Conservative manifesto now. The whole idea,as you say, is about the conservatives, not about her. Anybody wanting a conservative government will vote for her despite any motivation put forward using her as the reason. A bit like when we voted for the New Labour ideal by putting red rosettes on donkeys. |

Snag is, a catchy song is one thing, assuming Mudcat is full of those tuned into the same political outlook is another. I have no time whatsoever for the lady in question and highlighting her shortcomings is valid in any arena. But it's another "Fred spills his political hobby into Mudcat " again. A bit like asking us all to boycott Amazon etc. His assumption that whatever his cause of the day is, is shared is one thing. But rather than saying "if you agree" he assumes readers naturally agree. Gets my goat. |

However, there have been one or two threads recently, bemoaning the fact that the political song has gone the way of the dodo. So I thought people would be glad to know that the political song is alive and well and living on Merseyside. As for suggestions that this thread should be below the line, I cannot see the logic of this. Since when has Mudcat confined itself to folk music? I for one get a little fed up with people asking what's your favorite Frank Sinatra/Beatles/Dolly Parton song, or has anyone got the chords to Killing Me Softly, or whatever. While I agree that Sack Esther is not a folksong, neither are the compositions of Aunt Molly Jackson, Woody Guthrie, Jock Purdom or Ewan MacColl, to name but a few. Yet these are all perfectly acceptable topics for discussion - above the line. Finally there's the question of Musket. (Thinks. Oh God, what are we going to do with him?) The best advice I can give is to just ignore him. At least while he's attacking me, he's not kicking the shit out of anyone else. |
