Checking out at walmart, the lady in front of me
Was buying a back fat eliminator bra. I think I now heard it all. We need a song or infomercial.
Que... Hot model in shower, I use to have unsightly back fat until I tried the ronco back fat removal bra.

Once I had humongous back fat
Rolling and twisting and all like that
Then I found a lovely fat remover bra
Now have the slimmest back you ever saw

I don't do fat jokes. I don't do nigger jokes and I don't do slurs of any kind. If that is what you want to do then keep it to your bloody self.

No Ebbie, anyone who puts down other people because of their personal appearance is just an asshole.

I do fat jokes. Believe it or not, when telling jokes about thick people I refer to them as Berts.

If being fat stigmatises you, here's a tip. Two hands doesn't mean two donuts.

One for Bert.

Harry Potter has to be fiction. Whoever heard of a ginger kid with two friends?

I'm not saying she was a big lass but when she asked me if I had taken precautions I said I had strapped a plank across my arse.

I love it when sanctimonious fools get all Righteous. It reminds me that jokes are by definition at someone's expense.

I can't be an asshole on account of not being a foreigner.

Arsehole, yes. Guilty as charged.

Back on post. If you are fat, it is your choice. Period.

As my mate said quietly when another mate walked in the pub with his new girlfriend of the sort that successfully dodges salads. "Christ. I bet she can shit!"

Most of us feel sated when we have eaten sufficient.
It would make us sick if we forced more down.
As with all body functions, this balance does not work for many people.
They feel hungry when they should not.
That is why they resort to surgery and gastric bands.
It is cruel to ridicule people for something they never asked for and wish they could change.

Homophobic jokes? Well, there's Akenaton for starters.

I know lots of gay jokes though. I went out with a few of them before meeting my future husband. (Who is a ginger minger by the way)

Prat

Perhaps Keith's simplistic inaccurate portrayal of fat might be enhanced by pointing out how many fat people they liberated at Belson. Obesity is the morbidity bomb that faces society. Normalising it just serves to give fat people shorter lives with decreased quality.

Like I said. Two hands doesn't mean two donuts.

1. Everybody who's been on the Mudcat any length of time knows that olddude is a nice guy.

2. This is a music site, and there are quite a few poets skulking in the shadows. Olddude was not mocking anybody, he was simply taken with the sound of 'fat back bra.' As who wouldn't be?

3. I'm fat but I'll get in the swing.

Fat-back bra with a big back brace -
put the plumpness in its place!
What a great stunt -
shove it to the front!
Fat-back bra with a big back brace!

Two of the conditions Bert mentions are rare. They are also the only two that could by any stretch of the imagination lead to weight gain that cannot be regulated, and then the situation is debatable.

Depression, the main culprit, can lead to weight gain through many situations but the route is the same. Eat and drink too much without working it off.

Period. Anything else is pharmaceutical attempts to medicalise lifestyle. Aided and abetted by GPs failing to grasp the nettle when people present through their own fault. If they try to educate they are nanny state, if they don't, people die younger with lower quality of life.

Doug. I meant you. You asked a gay man if he was homophobic despite nothing whatsoever being mentioned on the subject in this thread hitherto. A gay man with a ginger husband. You couldn't possibly give a better example of your comments being by a prat.

I / we / Gaiai would never type "humo(u)r". Are your sure you are quoting Musket? We don't do foreign languages. Being British, we get round language barriers by repeating again in English but slower and louder.

That said. Being fat is a choice. Saying otherwise is shallow ignorance.

Very few people choose to be obese.
None really.
The obesity epidemic in Western countries results from a lifestyle conducive to to it.
Fat people are not all fools to be mocked and ridiculed.
Western culture gives people a lifestyle that makes many obese.

As you so intelligently pointed out Musket, concentration camp culture results in people being underweight.
Again, hardly a "choice."

You're right. That was Musket. Bert was quoting one of him. (That's with a smile- I rather enjoy the trinity.)

Of course, being fat is usually a choice. I am fat. At this age and stage of my life I choose not to subsist on lettuce leaves and celery sticks.

But being fat is not the subject of this thread- laughing at it and laughing at people trying to make a buck out of it comes closer.

Keith A Hole of Hertford is almost correct for once. You do not choose to be fat. You do however choose the factors that lead to being fat. Eating too much of the wrong things with less exercise the diet requires.

The Belson comparison is embedded in NICE guidelines for bariatric treatment by the way. My good friend Musket knows more about the guidelines than I do as he sees patients. I don't.

I am not exactly thin myself and weigh 17 stone, although being 6'3", that isn't morbidly obese. Yes, I do know that my love of beer means 38" trousers. Yes I should lose a bit and don't. Yes I am aware that losing it isn't as easy as you might think.

But the comments of the medical profession that I am articulating still stand. Obesity is a time bomb and we could do more about it. Not just us personally but the food industry and the politicians they influence too.

I am delighted to see the commons health select committee have at last started questioning hospitals whose retail contracts have led to junk food outlets in hospitals. NHS making money out of guaranteeing future costs whilst NHS spends a few millions on health promotion.

My other good friend Musket when a PCT chair (and I worked for them as a public health registrar at the time) wrote to the chairman of our local acute trust asking if, given they claim they cannot prevent fast food outlets because they contract retail through a company, how they would react if their contractor put a cigarette machine in the foyer, and what gives them the right to decide what part of health promotion they feel obliged to uphold and which not to.

I still refer to his letter in a lecture I give on clinical responsibility.
