2015 Obit: Mandolin player Pete Fyfe

I have just heard the sad news that Pete Fyfe is no longer with us. Pete was an excellent mandolin player, backing many famous artists as well as forming his group, "Band of Two" with Gary Blakely. He was also a CD reviewer whose pithy comments you may well have read in a variety of folk publications as well as on the web. Apart from that he was a good friend, masterminded my first CD on which he played mandolin and banjo and accompanied me when I played at venues local to him. A sad loss. My condolences to Glenys and all the many people who knew and loved him.

RIP

Peter

VERY sad to hear this via Swarb - had a bit to do with them in the days of yore when Fairport and other lunatics played at the Moon. Feel very sorry... such a nice chap.

Pete was a lovely guy. Sad that he had health problems that prevented his performing of late . He'll be much missed .

I have just heard the funeral arrangements for Pete. They are as follows:

Following the Service, a wake to celebrate Pete's life and achievements will be held at The Chateau, Coombe Lane, Croydon CR0 5RE. There's plenty of room for parking there. The telephone numbers for The Chateau are 020 8686 1244 and 020 8680 6027. In order to ascertain numbers, please advise me if you will be able to attend the funeral and/or the wake. As Pete was involved in music for so many years, please feel free to bring along instruments and voices for an appropriate celebration of Pete's musically fulfilling life.

A great pal, joker and musician - Pete, Gary & I along with George Wilson, Steve Hampton (late Vapors) Bill McKinnon have performed together as The Ansome Cabin Buoys on endless gigs for the past 20 years.

We will all miss him greatly its a pity that the more people in today's folk world did get to hear him play and see him SMILE.

Find out some time ago from both Bill Perring and Glenys, but not able to attend funeral or the wake, as Elaine and I now live a long way from our old Croydon stamping grounds.

Pete was a gentleman and a great folkie, and though I hadn't seen him for a couple of years or so, the news saddened my deeply.

I only just heard about Pete's passing through a Christmas Card, received from his partner Glenys.
I met Pete and his late brother Chris, though Eavesdropper, who I avidly followed, though the mid, late 1980s.
Eavesdropper, was an excellent band, who I first saw in 1983, at The Star, in North End, Croydon, and thereafter, at their regular venue, the Cartoon..
R.I.P. Pete, your great music, will be missed...
