07 Jun 15 - 05:04 AM (#3714973) Subject: RE: Searching for name of the artist From: Jim McLean I agree with Tattie Bogle tat the singer on the clips in post 1 is definitely NOT Matt McGinn, an old friend. Bainbo's clip IS of Matt. I do not know who the imitator is but probably some "exile" Scot living in America who makes a living imitating Scottish singers, rolling is "RS", probably wears a kilt. The rolling r's just sound too pronounced and forced. Whether he is American or Scottish he seems to be trying to sound like Matt McGinn except for in the third song of course! |

23 Jun 15 - 07:20 PM (#3718585) Subject: RE: Searching for name of the artist (Scottish) From: GUEST,Allan Conn You've had several Scots including myself suggest that the singer doesn't really sound Scottish. Scotland is a small country and the folk community is quite well known to each other. Had he been a Scottish singer who was known in any way then I'm sure somebody (ie especially the likes of Jack) would know of him! I think North America is a better bet though even at that if he is someone who is only known in his home town etc then it may be a long shot. The guy might only have made several home made vids and not be a gigging musician. |

27 Jun 15 - 10:15 AM (#3719293) Subject: RE: Searching for name of the artist (Scottish) From: FreddyHeadey Yes to what Megan L suggests, assuming she means 'thread title'...;-) Maybe, if you can't track down this particular artist :-( you could ask what similar artists mudcatters would suggest. Apart from these three examples at the moment we don't know what sort of / names of other music you enjoy or reject. My hunch is that the recordings are a few decades old and not many people in the whole world will know of him now. 27 Jun 15 - 11:15 AM (#3719316) Subject: RE: Searching for name of the artist (Scottish) From: GUEST,Anne Neilson I was niggled by the thought that it might be Watt Nicoll -- a Scottish singer and writer of (mainly) comic songs in the late 60s and 70s. I was never familiar enough with his repertoire to recognise these tracks posted here, but there is some material on Youtube. After a while he seemed to disappear from the scene, but I believe he went to the US and trained as a motivational speaker (and maybe even a hypnotist?), working there for many years. Within the past three or four years he reappeared in Britain with the focus on his consultancy work. I tried to look him up on Wikipedia but didn't get too far…. |
27 Jun 15 - 12:16 PM (#3719332) Subject: RE: Searching for name of the artist (Scottish) From: GUEST,kenny Sorry Anne - fairly certain it's not Watt Nicoll, but a good suggestion. No Dundee enough !
