Lyr Req: Some Frogs Jump One Foot

From: cnd

I had a kids folk song CD some years back with several fairly common folk songs, like John Henry and other things. But it had one folk song I haven't been able to find anywhere. The lyrics went:

Some frogs jump one foot, two foot, some frogs jump four
My frog jumps fifteen miles and then jumps some more

If I recall correctly, that was basically the whole songs for around 2 or 3 minutes. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.

I still can't find any information about this song, so if anyone knows anything about it, I'd be much obliged.

Hang in there, cnd. It may take a while to sort it out.

It's referred to here- don't suppose that was your query also? https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20141012200746AAGhkN5

"Some frogs a-jump one foot (one foot)
Some frogs jump four!
My frog jumps fifteen miles, and then jumps some more. "

Still looking...

Yes, that was also mine.

Ach, well!

On your children's CD, was it all sung by one singer? Male or female voice? (You mentioned it might be a Raffi song in your post linked above- why do you think so, please?) Instrumental backups? Anything you can remember will be useful in identifying both album and song name.

I think it was a lone male singing, and if I remember correctly, he reminded me of Doc Watson singing. I said it might be Raffi because that's what my parents and siblings said it might be, but it was over a dozen years ago. I believe the instrument they played was guitar.

There were some other songs on the CD, but I'm having a hard time remembering them. I'm pretty sure one I liked might have had to do with a train (descriptive, I know) and another was about John Henry vs the machine, but I don't think it was THE John Henry song.

Good to have a few more clues, thanks. Have you perhaps checked for a Raffi discography with songs listed? That might at least narrow it to a yes or no regarding Raffi.

Could it have been a jump rope chant/song? It sounds like it may have been. Some children's rhymes and play songs are derived from earlier songs, and the opposite is also true - songs get made from children's game rhymes. I am wondering if Azizi might be of some help. google cocojams Jambalayah. Doesn't appear any of her blogs have been active for awhile - at least that turn up on a cursory google search. A facebook message might be your best bet to reach her. Very knowledgable.

Doug Elliott, since you mentioned the singer sounded something like Doc Watson, might also be another potential resource. You could inquire him through his website http://www.dougelliott.com/. I know this song is not on "Bullfrogs on Your Mind." Doug is a naturalist, storyteller and musician in western NC, and might have some clues.

Other songs from it include:
I'm Workin' on a railroad
She'll be comin' 'round the mountain

I'll try and think of some others

Thanks Janie. I looked through his discography in his website, but I didn't see anything that looked like it might have been the CD I had. I did shoot him an email with the question, and hopefully he'll get back to me soon. Thanks for the help!

Just to keep you updated, Janie, Doug Elliot did get back to me, but said he did not recognize the song. He got back to me a while ago, but I forgot to update it on here.

I found this on Spotify:

SOME FROGS
As recorded by The Coyotes on "Introducing the Coyotes: Songs for Children" (2000)

CHORUS: Some frogs jump one foot, two foot; some frogs jump four.
My frog jumps fifteen miles and then jumps some more.

1. Some frogs read A-B-C and some frogs read signs.
My frog reads Shakespeare and he knows all the lines.

2. Some frogs eat flies and skeeters; some frogs eat ants.
My frog eats yogurt and takes lessons in dance.

3. Some frogs they like muddy waters; some frogs like trees.
My frog he likes big hotels that serve wine and cheese.

4. Some frogs play sick on a school day; some frogs play dead.
My frog plays guitar; he's a rock-and-roll head.

[The tune for the chorus is the same as the verse.]

Thanks Jim, you're a miracle worker. That's the same song, but I don't think it's the version I remember. Either way, thanks
