Can anyone work out what Dr John is singing about on his 'Dr Blues'?
You can hear it on YT, "Dr. John & The Nite Trippers - Leverkusener Jazztage 2014" at the 19.50 mark.

You can safely ignore the GUEST above. I don't have time to do it now, but you can here it below and see what I've got

Some women call me the doctor, others call me their lovin' man
Some women call me the doctor, others call me their lovin' man
I'm a hard regulator, got the remedy in my hand
Ain't gonna give you no ?towny?....

Thanks cnd, that's the same clip I'm working from. It's the ONLY clip as far as I can find. If you can, keep at it. By about verse 2 I gave up. Between his uber thick 'Nawlins' accent and patois he may as well be singing in Urdu.

Hah, I missed your joke and assumed you were just being a troll. Now I can appreciate it, though. He does have one heck of an accent.

While doing this, I found a slightly-faster version with different lyrics titled "Doctor Blooze" by the blues band "Bluesiana Triangle" (which I'm assuming is a super group based off the album cover pictured in the video). Much clearer singing, though different wording. View here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNX7J4ELtvM

Thanks cnd. The song will be performed at the Australian Jazz Convention in Ballarat Dec 29 and I will give a special "thanks to 'cnd' for making the song possible."
Cheers

(aka "Dr Don & The Day Trippers". Highly original, huh?!)

Glad I could help. You'll have to put up a video of the performance for me to see. Unfortunately Australia is a bit out of my way.

By the way, I like the band name. Where'd you get it from?!

I listened to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpp6QEStWmM

and I hear "ain't gon' prescribe you no pills"

and "Tell you if I can't cure you"

and he might be singing:

"I'm smart enough to be your doctor"

but I'm really not sure about that line.

All of your corrections make sense to me, Jim, except your last one. It just doesn't sound totally right. Maybe he says "But I'm-a sure 'nough be your doctor."

I listened again, and I agree; it's "But I'm-a sure 'nough be your doctor."
