I don't know about making music, but there is an absolutely wonderful band in St. Lucia called Man May La Kay Folk Band (pronounced sort of "Mamay LaKye") led by a fiddler, Charley Julian, and they also have banjo (Antoine), guitar (Anthony), Drum (Wellings) and shak shak (a homemade percussion instrument) (Augustin). We were able to bring this group to Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, WA, a few years ago (thanks to a very generous donor) and they totally rocked the joint for the entire week, and jammed with all comers. Very very nice folks and I loved their music. Ask around if you get to St. Lucia -- for Man May Lakay or for Mr. Charley Julian, the fiddler. Oh you are in for such a treat! |

03 Mar 16 - 05:12 PM (#3776565) Subject: RE: Music:St Lucia, Grenada - Caribbean From: greg stephens I have played on Bequai, Union, Meyreau, Carriacou and Petite Martinique (may have got some of those spellings wrong). Great places all. Musicians to be found if you look, banjoes, fiddles, quatros, as well as the usual steel bans and reggae in touris tbars. Look for the good old boys! |

Head for Carriacou, not into Hillsborough Bay, but go round the headland to the south into the next bay (can't remember its name). There are three nice bars at least on the beach. Her is the session we had in the Lazy Turtle . Say Greg and Kate from the Boat Band sent love |

Bars for music: Lambi Queen (quite near the jetty, turn right when you step ashore), then a little place witho no name I recall under a tree right on the beach, then the Lazy Turtle (a posher pizza place). |
