08 Jun 97 - 02:44 PM (#6430) Subject: RE: Need lyrics for outdoorschool songs From: rechal@earthlink.net The Magic Penny quoted by Cathy Brady (while not the one you're looking for), is on "I've Got A Song!" by Sandy and Caroline Paton on Folkways (I think). Don't know the other song, but it seems like a derivative of "Taps." As far as other camp, outdoor, or singalong songs -- I know hundreds. Are you looking for any particular songs? Here's a few popular camp songs: Father Abraham (had seven sons, and seven sons had...) Dog Named Blue I've Got Sixpence Titanic On Top Of Spaghetti/Old Smokey Barges I Don't Want No More Of Camp (Army) Life Little Brown Jug Mountain Dew Turkey In the Straw |
22 Jul 09 - 01:47 AM (#2685054) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: outdoor school songs From: GUEST the magic penny son goes like this " A penny's made of copper, love is made of hearts, magic is within us all, too soon we must depart, a magic love is in the air, the spirt round you flies, a magic penny means i care, your magic in my eyes. (Chorus) For a magic penny says the things no words can say, its a silent song of friendship that has grown, to someone who gives back to you, the love you gave away, a magic penny will never be alone for nothing can be had, from a penny you don't spend, love can never grow inside till given to a friend, i've learned so much from all of you i wish this would not end, but if we learned to share our love it will come back again. (chorus) |

09 Oct 09 - 10:47 PM (#2742572) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: outdoor school songs From: GUEST,thesummercampkid two little boys is always a good one ^^ Two little boys had two little toys Each had a wooden horse Gaily they played each summer's day Warriors both of course One little chap then had a mishap Broke off his horse's head Wept for his toy then cried with joy As his young playmate said Did you think I would leave you crying When there's room on my horse for two Climb up here Jack and don't be crying I can go just as fast with two When we grow up we'll both be soldiers And our horses will not be toys And I wonder if we'll remember When we were two little boys Long years had passed, war came so fast Bravely they marched away Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd Wounded and dying lay Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out Out from the ranks so blue Gallops away to where Joe lay Then came a voice he knew Did you think I would leave you dying When there's room on my horse for two Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying I can go just as fast with two Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble Perhaps it's the battle's noise But I think it's that I remember When we were two little boys Do you think I would leave you dying There's room on my horse for two Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying Back to the ranks so blue Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble Perhaps it's the battle's noise But I think it's that I remember When we were two little boys and another one is cowboy's lullaby o and flickerFLICKER The flicker of the campfire, the wind in the pines The stars in the heavens, the moon that shines A place where people gather to meet friends of all kinds A place where old man trouble is always left behind So give me the light of a campfire, warm and bright And give me some friends to sing with, I'll be here all night Love is where you find it; I've found mine right here Just you and me and the campfire and songs we love to hear So give me the light of a campfire, warm and bright And give me some friends to sing with, I'll be here all night Love is where you find it; I've found mine right here Just you and me and the campfire and songs we love to hear Desert blue and silver in the still moon-shine, Coyote yappin' lazy on the hill, Sleepy winks of lightin' down the far sky-line, Time for millin' cattle to be still, Chorus So, now, the lightnin's far away, The coyote's nothin' skeery, He's singin' to his dearie, Hee-ya, tam-ma-la-le-day! Settle down, you cattle, till the mornin'. Nothin' out the hazy range that you folks need, Nothin' we kin see to take you eye, Yet we got to watch you or you'd all stampede, Plung-in' down some 'roryo bank to die, Chorus Always seein' way-off dreams of silver blue, Always feelin' thorns that stab and sting, Yet stampedin' never made a dream come true, So I ride around myself and sing. |

04 Jul 12 - 09:26 PM (#3372115) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: outdoor school songs From: GUEST,burritoninjaS Actually I learned the big river song like this: There's a big river flowing, it'll be there tomorrow/ it's time we should be going, cause there's no time for sorrow/ the stars will light the way back home/ the song'll keep the fire/ remembering the days we've roamed/ this song'll lift you higher Chorus: So sing for the river and sing for the stars/ sing for the friends you've made/ wherever they are/ sing to bring you back again, or to take you away/ sing a song for me, my friend/ sing for today There's a big river flowing, and it's always in motion/ carves out it's journey on down to the ocean/ you can choose your path alone/ take it to the sea/ remembering the days we've roamed/ this song'll set you free Chorus again That's just how I learned it. I went to 3 different Outdoor Schools, so I think that I should know this song pretty well. They were Cedar Ridge, Magruder, and Westwind (in this order). Camp Westwind was my favorite, because my best friends EVER were in my cabin. If you think that these lyrics are wrong, that's okay because I'm only 12 and I honestly don't care. I just cared enough to put these lyrics on this website because I noticed that GUEST,SP had some of the sentences different from how I learned it. |
