He gatheered together an orchestra (not sure which), Jonathan Price, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Knopfler, Bonny Tyler, Geraint Evans, Tom Jones, Mary Hopkin, the London Welsh Male Voice Choir, etc, etc to make a stunning version of the radio play. |

He recorded many artists, particularly Flanders and Swann, but it was the magic combination of George's producing and four loveable moptop rock-and-roll musicians that put me the on The Road To Damascus. Like thousands of other teenagers, I just had to have a guitar, and badgered my parents into buying me an acoustic one as a Christmas present. Lots of influences inspired me - John Singleton of Goodmayes Methodist Youth Club, Bunjies cellar club and Fairport Convention amongst them - and the music has taken me to Hong Kong, New Zealand, America and many European countries, and I have learned to love and appreciate the vast riches of Welsh, Celtic and English folk traditions. I'm a founder of Llantrisant Folk Club, the best community there is, and we are celebrating our 35-year run. And all because of Sir George Martin and The Beatles... |

He built Air London in an old church and kept the pipe organ and choir loft intact. I heard that the last service in that church was conducted by Mick Jagger's father, now there is a vibe. He produced a series for the BBC called "The Rythmn of Life" I think, well worth watching. The heavenly choir now has a recording genius and producer to guide them on their way. Bob. |

I do hope the BBC re-issue the series Bob Hitchcock mentioned above - a fascinating study of music, in three parts (melody, harmony, rhythm) - I remember being spellbound when I saw GM interviewing an American musicologist who had recorded trees drawing up water and then amplified the sounds, creating a brilliant rhythm you could dance to.... the Rhythm of Life |
