An Góilín Traditional Singer's club guests this coming Friday are Bennery Quinn and Síomha and Méabh Mulligan, granddaughters of the late Micil Ned Quinn of Mullaghbawn, Co, Armagh. They carry a tradition of singing from their great grandfather, John Ned Quinn, Micil Ned himself and Mícheál and Pauline their respective parents. Their enjoyment of singing comes from family gatherings and house parties. The girls play flute, fiddle and concertina and play in sessions around the country, so as well as the songs we'll be having a couple of tunes from the girls. It promises to be a great night!

Re: Dick's comments about practising the accompaniment: When I'm learning a song, I usually have a look aat the words and tune, and get an idea of whether to accompany it, and what on. Then I learn the song while attempting to accompany it. After much repetition and swearing and growling, a performance emerges. I don't know how, but the accompaniment grows out of the song - I don't claim to have had much to do with it. Trouble is, half the time - especially on the harmonium - I don't actually know what I'm playing. Just relying on muscle memory. Weird, but it's what works for me.
