This song feels like a traditional song, but it isn't. The version in the Digital Tradition comes from Guy Carawan, but it was written by Bill Staines.

GOIN' BACK TO CAROLINA (Sweet Winds Blowing)[from DT]
(Bill Staines adapted Guy Carawan)

I can hear the soft winds blowin' through the valleys and the hills
I can hear the soft winds blowin'as I go, as I go,
I can hear the soft winds blowin' through the valleys and the hills
I'm goin' back to Carolina, bless my soul, bless my soul.

I can see the morning breakin' through the valleys and the hills,
I can see the morning breakin' as I go, as I go
I can see the morning breakin'through the valleys and the hills
I'm goin' back to Carolina, bless my soul, bless my soul.

I can feel a touch of heaven etc.

I can feel the people stirrin', etc.

I CAN FEEL THE SWEET WINDS BLOWING

I can feel the sweet winds blowin'
Through the valleys and the hills.
I can feel the sweet winds blowin'
As I go, as I go.

Through the valleys and the hills.
I'm goin' back to Carolina,
That's my home, that's my home.

3. I can hear my people calling...
4. I can see a dawn a-breaking...

And finally, here's the version that's in the songbook, If I Were a Word, Then I'd Be a Song: Songs by Bill Staines published by Folk-Legacy Records, 1980 (Page 83)

BLESS MY SOUL (SWEET WIND)
(Bill Staines)

I can feel a sweet wind blowing
Through the valleys and the hills.
I can feel a sweet wind blowing
As I go, as I go.
I can feel a sweet wind blowing
Through the valleys and the hills.
I'm going back to Carolina,
Bless my soul, bless my soul.

I can see the morning breaking...
