30 Aug 16 - 02:14 AM (#3807499) Subject: RE: Tech: mouse won't work on refurbished laptop From: Joe Offer Hmmm. I've never had a mouse problem after upgrading to Windows 10, and I've upgraded maybe 20 computers by now. Wish I could say the same for other peripherals. Is this a wired or wireless mouse, mg? A wireless mouse will probably need a plug-in "dongle" to receive the mouse signal. If you have that, or if you have a plug-in mouse, go to "support" at the Website of the company that made your mouse. They may have an updated driver. -Joe- Here's Microsoft's mouse troubleshooting page: |
30 Aug 16 - 02:22 AM (#3807501) Subject: RE: Tech: mouse won[t work on refurbished lapto From: DaveRo Have you tried other USB ports? Have you tried a different mouse - borrow one? Have you tried other USB devices in that port? Does that mouse work in other machines? Is the mouse disabled in the control panel device manager (get there via windows-key and X) What does the device manager say about the mouse? Nearly all mice are 'generic pointing devices' and Windows will have drivers. If the mouse is unusual go to its manufacturer's website - but unless it's a major brand you won't find it. I like Trackpoints - but they take sime getting used to. |

Your problem maybe just as simple as telling your laptop that you're using a mouse instead of the pad or trackball. On my one, it is function button F9 to switch from pad to mouse and back again. Hope this helps. |

It could be that your laptop was built to accept a wireless mouse, but not a mouse with a USB. I switched to a wireless mouse years ago, and I'm very glad I did. I bet you would like it too. They are not expensive. They do take a battery, but the batteries last a long time. |
