Interesting thing I just read

I've thought for years of doing something like this but never had the tools/money to do it. Any one else have any thoughts about it?

I've occasionally wondered whether old shellac or vinyl records could be played by light beam or laser - but never imagined camera imaging might be the solution.

The linked article is from 2007. It would be interesting to see what progress, if any, has been made since.

One problem with records, both shellac and vinyl, is that one or both sides were often pressed off-centre relative to the hole in the middle, resulting in wow which I for one can easily hear.

I wonder if IRENE can eradicate this?

Wow, bobad, I didn't even realize that. Here's some more recent stuff, with audio samples
