Are those words just words in a Speech or are they a hind to a more coming things ? what ever they are , not long ago they who watch the outer space saw some things coming into our Solar system . From: Steve Shaw As you're in Iceland you probably won't appreciate my methods when I tell you this, but in August I was in a totally dark, remote part of Andalucía, on a hilltop, perfectly clear sky and twenty-five degrees, my sister and I lying back on deckchairs in t-shirts and shorts until three in the morning watching the Perseids, a couple of bottles of Rioja to hand. Now that's what I call doing astronomy. We saw lots of meteors and I was a bit surprised to see how multicoloured they were. We didn't get up very early the next day. |

In August I used to lie on a rug and count the shooting stars. You never know from which direction each one will come, so you need to have a wide-angle view and stare straight ahead. I once counted 57. It always struck me as weird that they didn't make a 'whoosh!' sound! I also saw bats, rats, a handsome fox and some rabbits, all equally startled to see me lying there on the ground in the dark. |

Turner & Whistler painted the evidence. Smog. The Thames was so poluted no fish had survied for years. Nothing was done until parliament had to put rags soaked in disinfectant at the windows to hide the smell, an event called the "Big Stink". Suddenly vast sums of money were made available. In the 1950s smog was a big deal in the UK, then came the "clean air act" and when did you see a fog that lasted more than a morning? Let alone a photochemical smog that halted all the buses and turned day into night. And prevented politicians from getting home! The moral? You have to get up the noses of politicians for anything to be done! We have that alien terror now. But it wears an invisibility cloak and it's father is us! Are we afraid of our own shadow? |

As an example: In geology uniformitarianism was once held to be the norm. However multiple impacts on Venus by the Shoemaker Levy comet demonstrated that the universe is not always the placid place we have taken it to be and our planet has been hit multiple times.
