May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing

10 May 17 - 02:10 PM (#3854274)
Subject: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing
From: Bat Goddess

I had a choice of either posting this early or posting it late. I chose early because I don't know if I'll have internet access this Sunday. I hope it doesn't confuse anyone!

The May Press Room Shanty, Forebitter and Foc's'le Ballad Session will be a week from this Saturday -- Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 3:30 to 7:30 PM at The Press Room on Daniel Street in Portsmouth, NH.

Another purchase and sale agreement has been signed on The Press Room (the first sale fell through) and when a sale goes through, the Press Room will probably have to close temporarily for some repairs and upgrades, so... Let's get together at The Press Room and sing while we can!

Live, participatory music -- especially singing with friends! -- makes our world a better place and us more healthy...and definitely improves our disposition.

I just got word that, more than likely, The Press Room will be closed for renovations from June 3 through August. When I get back from Indian Neck this weekend, I'll start work on finding a temporary Portsmouth venue for the shanty sing.

Well, my exciting news is I was admitted to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital around 3:00 this morning...

Drove over to th ER last night around 9-9:30 because the productive cough (what I thought was the tradition post-festival cold complicated by tree sperm) turned unproductive and I discovered breathing was major work. So after they stabbed me, stuck me full of stuff, EKG, chest X-ray, CTA scan, etc. and a couple of breathing treatments, the medicos said it was bronchitis. Can't believe it blew up as quickly as it did.

I feel great otherwise. They decided to keep me because walking back from the loo, my oxygen level dropped and I got a tad out of breath.

Not sure when or if I'll actually get any sleep. With luck I'll get sprung later today. This was such a surprise and it came on so quickly after a lovely weekend and a long drive (broken by breakfast, a visit to Professor Child, some accessory shopping on the Mass Pike, and a late lunch before I made it back to the ol' homestead.

More details at Facebook. I don't FEEL ill -- why am I in the hospital? I'd like to go home and get some sleep!

Good grief Linn, I hope you are now home and resting more comfortably.
Breathing, you can't live without it.

Sadly, I will be unable to attend Saturday's session. I will be picking up a friend from rehab to take her home and stay a day or so with her. She broke her hip and is mending well, but since she had just moved into her home 2 days before the accident, she cannot be alone. The place is strewn with boxes and there isn't a working kitchen. Another friend will take over after my stint.

Sing one for me!

I hadn't expected to stay last night, but it was decided around 2 a.m. To admit me. I thought it likely I'd be released today, but the doctor came in late morning and said she wanted to keep me another day to watch the transition from intravenous meds to pills and have another couple sessions with the nebulizer. I feel great today (never felt "sick" just not a lot of lung capacity). And wide awake despite it being almost 27 hours since my one-hour nap yesterday and running on an Indian Neck sleep deficit -- thanks to prednisone, the new speed, I think.

Home from the hospital. Pharmacy took a little longer than the pharmacist expected -- the doctor who DIDN'T send the Rx electronically had to be contacted for more information for one of the 'scripts.

I need to send some fairly time-sensitive emails later today, but right now I'm retiring to my boudoir to REST (and pet a cat).

Yes, I will be at the Friday session.

Yes, I will be at Saturday's sea music session.

How long I'll stay at either is up in the air -- I'll play it by ear as to how I'm feeling and my energy level (and how long it takes me to catch my breath).

I actually have a voice, believe it or not. I just don't have any lung capacity to back it up.

Thanks for the good wishes!

I just made the executive decision that there is absolutely no way I can get dressed, get in a car, and drive to Portsmouth for this afternoon's (Friday) trad session -- even if I didn't intend to stay that long. Made arrangements with responsible "adult" supervision (or what passes for adult in our circle ;-) ) and emailed the usual suspects not to expect me even though I had been adamant about coming.

After I finish the hot and sour soup for lunch (before prednisone takes all my tastebuds away), I'll again retire for another nap, I think.

And rest up so I can put in an appearance at tomorrow's sea music singaround.

Why does this thread drop off after just a few hours?!?

Right now I'm rethinking whether I'll be able to stay upright and moving around long enough to put in an appearance at today's session. I was out of breath just bring coffee and fruit and cereal up for breakfast. And I want a nap...at 10 aa.m.

SESSION MEETING TODAY AS SCHEDULED!!! Alas, I won't be there. I'm being realistic and realizing that coming to the session would probably set my recovery back. I need a nap.

If someone would be so kind as to make notes of the songs sung and either forward them to me or post the, I would appreciate it.

There WILL be adult supervision (kindly provided by Emery Hutchins). Play nice; treat your servers well, and I'll try to let everyone know soon (as soon as I can nail something down) where we'll be meeting for the next three months while the Press Room is closed for renovations.

Sing your hearts out and raise those rafters a few feet.

It doesn't, Linn.

Something is happening on your computer.

Try refreshing the main page before getting concerned.
Your system is probably reverting to an older version of the thread.

You also may want to "trace" the thread or bookmark it. I don't think anybody else is having the problem. Otherwise, there's probably a way to set your browser to always refresh a thread when you click on it.

Linn, we did miss you, on all counts: singer, knowledge base, raconteur, fearless leader, etc.! It was nice to have some Cape Ann folk join us, as well as Mike Blair (who was passing thru, rather than over). A couple of title nit-picks: #5 should be "Sing You Well", from the Short Sharp Shanties collection Vol.1. #34 should be "Mariquita". I thought there was some fine singing this session! Martha, did you find your way to this thread? Also it looks like I'll have to wait a year to hear Dianne sing the Padstow May Song" (I know, you were being a caring friend).
