No idea if is is really true, but I was told that when it was all the rage Barclays sold off their buildings in central London to an estate management firm because after all their core businesses is banking so all this non-core stuff like running the buildings should be outsourced.

Then the management firm got into financial trouble and Barclays, technically speaking, should have evicted themselves as part of sorting the mess out.

IT and or hacking security failures have shut down airlines in the US 5 times this past year if memory serves.

Over here government is more than 50% outsourced.

It's simply a question of whether you can get a job done better & cheaper by doing it yourself or paying a specialist to do it. Applies at all levels - individuals, companies, government organisations - and could cover anything from decorating a room to building a hospital.

BA outsourced its IT operations and got hammered. NHS didn't and got hammered. There's no one-size-fits-all answer.

The NHS did outsource large parts of its IT, and those were the bits that got hit by the virus.

Didn't see that in the news reports - I stand corrected.
