From: Cara Hi guys, There's a new-ish service at this address which allows you to call from your computer to a regular telephone. It's called Dialpad, and it's easy and free. You have to sign up, and they ask some personal questions, so if you feel imposed upon then don't answer them truthfully. They say all info is secure anyway. You have to have a microphone and speakers, or a headset or some such, but it's a great service. If you haven't been able to call Mudcat Radio because you're always online and don't have an extra phone, here's your chance. Sometimes it says "no gateway available" or some such which means that all their lines are tied up, but if you peresevere you can always get through. Anyway, I'm curious to see how it works for everyone, because the better it is, the less I'll be using my regular phone for long-distance calls! Unfortunately, it's not yet able to support international calls. THey say it will be soon, though.

From: Bill D I have been looking at this for weeks, and just set it up today...before I looged in here & saw this message!... Be warned...you M*U*S*T have java & javascript enabled, at least while you are using the service...for those of us who like to turn the 'java-twins' off most of the time, it can be a hassle to remember....but it does seem to work! also...during sign-up, they ask you info., and you get 'warnings' about security and such...the ONLY way to use this system to to say 'yes' or 'agree' to everything. I guess they are legally required to offer the disclaimers, and you can decide NOT to go ahead anytime, but ya gotta let 'em set it up THEIR way, or you can't play...... I decided to take my chances..... |

From: Bill D I have this cheapo pair of computer headphones/mic, but itkeeps you from hearing your own calls thru the speakers...I guess I will be finding a 'Y' connector from Radio Shack that will let me leave both plugged in, since I can manually turn the volume down on my speakers..(so durn much to figure out in this Brave New World!) |
