I was carefully edging around the conversation about supporting artists by buying their products, and there you are, doing just that. Yes, RIP Mr Garbutt, but I suspect he'll be having a rollicking good time in heaven, entertaining everyone he meets. |

There's a couple of parts where I'm not to sure of the words ("They built a little ? with workers on the dole"). I can't quite get the chords to line-up when copying to the message box. NOT FOR THE FIRST TIME – VIN GARBUTT G D The children wait by the dockyard gate D Em C The very last time bringing daddy’s bait C What’ll be their fates D G This is not for the first time. He’s moving down south when the gate slammed shut Going for a job, down there there is a glut His father went before, on foot Cos it’s not for the first time. CHORUS G Em Well it’s just not fair all the work’s down there D Em C You try to point it out but who is there to care C The north is in despair D G And it’s not for the first time. They’re closing down the shipyards and closing down the pits There’s people emigrating and there’s marriages in bits There’s family splits And it’s not for the first time. Just across the river in the town of Hartlepool They built a little (?) with workers on the dole It seems to want your soul not your coal And it’s not for the first time. CHORUS Well it’s just not fair all the work’s down there You try to point it out but who is there to care The north is in despair And it’s not for the first time. SOLO The South wears the money belt, the North wears the yoke The South is the honey (?) unemployment is a joke to them Up here we get the dust and smoke And it’s not for the first time. So the children wait by the dockyard gate I only hope and pray they will never share their fate Of their daddy who’s late today Of their daddy who’s late getting paid Their daddy who’s late getting paid for the very last time. |
