Very sad to hear that Alan Surtees had died after a short illness. He was a lovely man and worked very hard to promote folk music in general and Shrewsbury festival owes a lot to him.

Very sad news indeed. I have been attending Shrewsbury FF since the first one and this wonderful event will be a lasting testament to his memory. RIP Alan

It is with great sadness that I report the death of Alan Surtees - Director of Shrewsbury Folk Festival..His cancer returned and he realised that this time it was terminal....Loss of a great friend and brilliant organiser who took what started as a local Festival (originally in Bridgnorth) and made it internationally famous. A very sad loss to the folk community. Condolences to Sandra and his family.

The success of the Shrewsbury Festival is a great testament to Alan Surtees and his hard work. He will be much missed. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread. Rest in peace Alan.
