I had no idea he'd still been alive. What a voice.

Man of a thousand sessions with the wrecking crew, ex-Beach Boy as well as having his own many pop/country hits. So glad he has been released. A fabulous legacy of recordings left behind.

Here's his final album, Adios (click). It was recorded during his final studio sessions in 1012-13, and released in June, 2017. His final stage performance was November 30, 2012, in Napa, California - not a particularly auspicious venue.
I can't say I always liked his music, but I think he put his heart into what he did. May he rest in peace.

Great guitar player, great interpreter of Jim Webb and singer of Gentle on My Mind. Quite a guy.

I knew Glen Campbell had been ill for a long time - but it is just the finality of it now that he has succumbed to the horrible progressive Alzheimer's disease. I remember his TV program, "The Glen Campbell Hour" and so many great country songs. My favorite, "Wichita Line Man" and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix." I remember him playing for short time with The Beach Boys too.
So many of your fans world wide will miss you and the tremendous talented artist you were.

Sad loss. I still have an LP made in 1959 ( The 12 string folk swingers. Fontana) with him playing guitar. Didn't always appreciate the country music but his guitar playing was excellent and what a smooth voice. Still, he had a good, long, prosperous life reaching higher than many of us could never even dream of.

Loved Glen Campbell's guitar playing...admired his expressive voice...a significant influence during my early, guitar playing years. Very sad news.

He once said he believed "anyone who burned their draft card should be hung".

When he recorded the song Galveston, the words were apparently changed from;

Wonder if she could forget me
I'd go home if they would let me
Put down this gun
And go to Galveston

to;

I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun
And dream of Galveston

He gained a lot of credibility (for me, at least) by being part of the Smothers Brothers enterprise back in the day. If you look in IMDb in the "Self" category there are tons of his performances. He was with them in 1968-69.

I always admired his musicianship. He could sing anything and was a great guitar player. Sorry to see him go.

I've learned that Glen Campbell is at last free of the curse of Alzheimer's. Here is a man that truly a musician in every sense of the word. A great singer, entertainer and instrumentalist. Apart from his own work he also backed many greats as part of The Wrecking Crew, a crack group of studio musicians in Los Angeles. The scores of his own recordings will speak for themselves. A fitting legacy.

In his own words

LESS OF ME

Let me be a little kinder
Let me be a little blinder
To the faults of those about me
Let me praise a little more
Let me be when I am weary
Just a little bit more cheery
Think a little more of others
And a little less of me

Let me be a little braver
When temptation bids me waver
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be
Let me be a little meeker
With the brother that is weaker
Let me think more of my neighbour
And a little less of me

Let me be when I am weary
Just a little bit more cheery
Let me serve a little better
Those that I am striving for
Let me be a little meeker
With the brother that is weaker
Think a little more of others
And a little less of me

When I worked and traveled in the UK in the '90s I' went to his show in Ipswich (Suffolk). He performed with 2 two of his daughters singing backup. At show's end, he paid tribute to his Scottish roots and performed Amazing Grace on the bagpipes . Loved it. Thank you for the life in music you have shared with us.

RIP

I loved his voice. The range on Rhinestone Cowboy proves just how good a singer he was. His guitar playing could be magnificent when he wanted to and his repertoire was broad and included some well-known Folk songs. i.e. Bradley Kincaid's version of Barbara Allen. He had stage charisma and professionalism that made him a joy to watch. I do not think we saw all he was capable of performing. He had a great ear for good songs and certainly helped to put Jimmy Webb's songs out to a wider public.
I would love to have heard him in concert on his own with an acoustic guitar. I am a great believer that performance skills transcend musical mediums, and a good singer and performer will always inspire others, what so ever the song.

We (The Frontiersmen) opened for The Beach Boys back in 1965 (in Buffalo, NY). Glen came to our dressing room and jammed with us for about half an hour. Still have a guitar and a banjo he played at that session. Great picker/singer/guy!

On Mama Tried Campbell played rhythm guitar and sang tenor harmony, James Burton played Dobro, that's him either finger picking or hybrid picking during the intro, and Roy Nichols played electric lead, all according to an interview given by Merle.

One-off, all-star style wrecking crews were a thing at Capitol from its beginning. Leon Jerry “Jack” Guthrie's 1940s version were The Oklahomans; all better known than their front man who didn't actually have a band to call his own. Producer/bassist Cliffie Stone was the former music director at KFVD when & where the Jack & Woody act caught their first big break.

Haggard's lot were billed as The Strangers. The roll call hangs down to your shins.
