BS: Fancy a fag?

...or to our US comrades, would you like a cigarette?

I haven't smoked over in 20 years apart from a spell working in Brussels, where smoking seemed compulsory and a holiday in Mexico where they threw cigars at you.

Just mowed our postage stamp and was sat down with a cold beer and thought, "Eeee, I could just roll a fag of Golden Virginia in liquorice paper". I probably could have smoked it as well! I didn't of course and hopefully never will but I wonder if it ever leaves you?

It was always my ambition to take up smoking the smelliest pipe tobacco possible and puff away on a well bent briar in the vault of my local much to the annoyance of all but the pub smoking ban has put a stop to that. Many will be pleased :-)

Cheers

DtG

Cough, cough.

I gave it up in 1994, but still indulge once a year or so if I can scrounge one. They don't taste as good as I'd like them to.

I think it was 1984 when I gave up. My wife (now X) had said "You must give up otherwise I won't be able to!". I did but she didn't even try. Two weeks later I rolled her a cigarette, lit it and inhaled. It tasted like I'd licked the bottom of a used ash tray! (remember them?). I've never hankered for a smoke since. I am shocked at how much it would cost me today.

Had to stop on the very strong word of a surgeon, basically if you don't stop I'll ampitate your leg .......... I'm going to do that anyway but you get to keep it for a bit longer.

Now I'm fond of me leg, we've been all over the place together, Ben Nevis, Snowden, Scarfell Pike, we've climbed the lot, it's like a old friend me and me leg.

Can't even stand the smell of them now'

I didn't have much trouble kicking the actual smoking habit, but it took me years to stop trimming one guitar string an inch longer than the others so I'd have something to impale cigarettes on between tunes.

I smoked like a chimney. At one point I was smoking thirty fags and an ounce of Three Nuns Dark Shag a day. But, at 8.05 pm on 21 February 1978, after a coughing fit I suddenly gave up (there were still 17 Embassies left in the packet). No tobacco product has passed my lips since that day. I was helped by the fact that Mrs Steve got pregnant with our first child shortly after I packed it in and I decided that it wasn't right to let her inhale my pollution. I could never get by on just a few a day. It was all or nothing. Giving up was the best thing I ever did and it meant that I'm here today to post on this forum, you lucky people. My future plans include giving up sex when I'm 99 and giving up alcohol when I'm 104.

By the way, I still dream about smoking and often fancy a fag after a big nosh.

Nowt so virtuous as a reformed whore.

Nah, I find the smell of second hand cigartte smoke offensive. Have done for 40 years.

Cigars you say? .......... errrrrrrrrrrrr (thinks to myself, must be strong, must be strong, cold shower).

My sense of humour but when I see people have just come outside about to light-up I inevitably ask if they have come out for a bit of fresh air!

I'd propose pubs and shops installing smoke detectors and sprinklers outside their doorways... 😈

years ago we went to see the film THe Music LOvers

as we were walking home, my wife said, do you fancy Glenda Jackson?

I remember telling Denise, I think I'd rather shag Richard Chamberlain...

As long as you still like thinking about it, Dave, as long as you still like thinking about it...

I gave up booze about four years ago. I dreamt about drinking brandy last night.

Did anyone see that episode of Country File (I think) on the BBC where one presenter said to the other something along the lines of 'That was the deepest shag we have had'. Dunno how they kept straight faces :-)

Has "Bonk" dropped from popular fashionable parlance.. that was one shite trite expression foisted by the tabloids...

Was it a quick Shag or a rapid Cormorant?

my tobacconist used to sell black shag. there was some in a jar and there was rolling tobacco in a packet with black family on the label. it was surprisingly mild.
