Can any one put in the right direction for obtaining the lyrics to Fail-Oro we're Sailing. It comes from a Robin Hall and Jimmy Macgregor LP Scotland's Best. I know it is on you tube but cannot make out some of the lycrics as i would like to sing this song with my Band, Border Crossing. Hope somebody can help.

Cheers

Wee Jock

My best attempt but two lines have me licked!

Fal Oro we’re sailing, The bosun is hailing
The lads are high in the rigging and the wind in the hawsers is wailing

Fal Oro we’re sailing
We took her out of Greenock???????????
Six and thirty bright sails she had like maidens of the valley
Fal Oro we’re sailing, The bosun is hailing
The lads are high in the rigging and the wind in the hawsers is wailing
Fal Oro we’re sailing

We passed the land of Erin, No signs of it fairing, the wind blew up from behind us
And it blew till ????????started swearing
Fal Oro we’re sailing, The bosun is hailing
The lads are high in the rigging and the wind in the hawsers is wailing
Fal Oro we’re sailing

We’re bound for Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Manitoba
We’ll be at sea for a year or more, before this voyage is over
Fal Oro we’re sailing, The bosun is hailing
The lads are high in the rigging and the wind in the hawsers is wailing
Fal Oro we’re sailing
Fal Oro we’re sailing

Many thanks for the words, i have listened a few more times to the song and think that the missing words are Fail-0r0 and Sally and the other ones according to my ears, are We all. I don't know if they are correct but it seems to make sense. Again many thanks for your efforts.

Cheers

The missing lines are (I think - don't know correct spelling for the end of the 1st one, I've put it down phonetically)

  Fail oro and fail ee

it blew till they all started swearing

The song appears to be an English version of Fail Oro Mar Dh' Fhag Sinn, given as Lewis Sailing Song. You can hear a version in Gaelic also on youtube: Isabelle Bain - Fail O Rò Bhon Dh'Fhàg Sinn (singing at 0:14). (There's another version by The MacDonald Sisters, but not visible to me in uk).

I learned this song from a sailor once. The lyrics I learned were as follows:

Felorow we’re sailin’
The Bosun is hailin’
The lads are high in the riggin’
And the wind in the hawse is wailin’
Felorow we’re sailin’

Felorow we’re sailin’
We took her out from Grenoc
Felorow and fairleo
Six and thirty white sails she wore
Like maidens on the valley
Felorow we’re sailin’

Felorow we’re sailin’
We passed the land of Erin
No signs of it fairin’
The wind, she blew up behind us
And it blew ‘till we started swearin’
Felorow we’re sailin’

Felorow we’re sailin’
We’re bound for Nova Scotia
Newfoundland and Manitoba
We’ll be at sea for a year or more
Before this voyage is over
Felorow we’re sailin’

Interesting--Manitoba's only coast is on Hudson's Bay. Could the song actually be about Arctic exploration? Greenock was also a base for the Arctic whaling fleet.

I seem to recall a version where, instead of Hawse, "the sheets are stiff in the brailings", which I assumed to mean the sails were tight in the wind (brail being a rope for the sails)
