July Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing

The July Press Room Shanty, Forebitter, and Foc's'l Ballad Session-In-Exile will be this Saturday, July 20th from 3:30 to 7:30 at the Continental Restaurant & Bar -- just north of Dover 2 blocks from the intersection of Rtes. 108 and Rte. 9. See previous threads for address and directions.

For consistency and ease is searching for past threads, I'm continuing to refer to the session in the header as "Press Room" even though we're meeting at the Continental north of Dover and not in Portsmouth. The Continental is a wonderful venue for us and, let's face it, we have no guarantees when the Press Room will reopen or if there will be a place there for the sessions when it does.

There's plenty of FREE parking, handicapped access, lots of seating, good acoustics, Guinness on draft, and Chinese food and buffet. We're in the function room just off the bar -- turn left at the saltwater aquarium, then turn right into the function room.

I've heard from Nick Noble. He'll be at both the Friday Anglo-Celtic trad session (also at the Continental, 4:30-8:30) and Saturday's shanty sing.

Who else is coming? Hope to see you all then!

Linn

I wonder if the women I met last month at the singaround at Bladt Bough Brewery in Epsom will come. They live just around the corner from the Continental.

Might be some other first timers as well.

Should be fun...as it always is!

Wonder, too, if Fionn who runs the Blasty Bough session might make it this afternoon...

I think I'm going to skip it this month. The weather is lovely, the dog needs a long run in the woods, and I have errands to run. Not to mention that I have spent far too much time in the car lately. Have fun, everyone!

You'll be missed...but I understand.

You can read my report so you can tell your boss if he asks.

I made it to Dover, at least. Stopped at a drug store to buy something, and realized I just wanted to sloth out. I really don't know why my energy level's so low.

Hope it was a good time!

Yeehah! Just did some researching and figured out what model and year Tom's Guild guitar is so I can sell it intelligently. The serial number indicates it was made in 1965, which is in keeping with what I suspected. I don't know exactly when he bought it, but I'm pretty certain is was before 1970. Thing is, the model number (on the back of the headstock) is preceded by DB which should mean it's a Starfire VI -- which is a semi-hollow body electric and definitely NOT what Tom's guitar is. Tom's looks like a natural finish F-20, but I haven't yet had time to take measurements.

Anywho, that doesn't actually pertain to yesterday's session, which was small-ish but delightful. If I have time between finishing today's paper and leaving to hear Oran Mor who are replacing Great Bay Sailor today at The Barley House in North Hampton, I'll get a start on reporting on yesterday's session.

Here goes. Let's see how far I get before I have to head to Hampton.

As usual, please let me know of any corrections or omissions.

Thank you all for coming! And those of you who missed it, well, you missed a lively sing. (But the weather really was gorgeous on Saturday and with a predicted week of rain to follow.)

By the way, up above that's "Blasty Bough Brewery" not "Bladt Bough Brewery"...thanks, AutoCorrect. (Argh! You can tell I posted that from my iPad.)
