Halloween Song Challenge: Corpse Flower

Sumatra is the home of the Corpse Flower. However,
Dartmouth College in the state of New Hampshire
has a specimen at the college greenhouse.

Rarely blooms or puts out a leaf;
relies on its odor to attract pollinators.

Morphy the Corpse Flower at the Dartmouth College greenhouse
is getting ready to bloom
just in time for Halloween.

Actually,
the poster of the original post above
is stinky ol' keberoxu.

I apologize -- cookie confusion.

that's that straightened out ...

This link from Dartmouth College is NOT the webcam
(I had trouble getting that to link just now)
but a time-lapse video of the last time Morphy put on a show.

And yes, it's pretty weird.
But might it inspire a song?

We have one of them in Edinburgh Botanic Gardens - I saw it when it flowered a while ago, though it was a couple of days past its peak pong. There were huge queues - must have been way more popular than Trump's inauguration.

see:             "peak pong" rhymes with "song" ...

There is one in the Botanical Gardens in tropical Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Here is a snippet from an article in the local rag:

"Stink aside, Titan Arum also holds claim to one of the most unusual – and amusing – scientific names in the plant world; Amorphophallus Titanum means ‘misshapen giant penis’.

Cairns Botanic Gardens made national headlines last year with the blooming of a 282cm, record-breaking Titan Arum named Spud in January last year.

Spud’s olfactory assault drew hundreds of curious families, visitors and photographers keen to catch the corpse flower in action (Titan Arum flowers typically close within two days of opening.)"

I wasn't fortunate to witness this marvel of Mother Nature but hope to another time.

Corpse Flower

Morphy finally is blooming,
Just in time for Hallows’ eve
Six-foot stalk, described as ‘looming’
With a stench you’d not believe.

Titan Arum comes to flower
Just in time for treat or trick
It will awe you with its power
Looking like a six foot dick

And I think I ought to mention
That this plant’s carniv’rous too.
Let’s be glad it isn’t sentient,
Just remember ‘Audrey II’

(no set tune, but scansion matches the hymn "Bright the vision that delighted")

Nigel Parsons, I bow to you.

Does it have to be human?
Does it have to be MINE?"

Top up your botanic knowledge.
Join the crowds that daily come
For the sight at Dartmouth College
Amorphophallus Titanum.

(final line has one syllable too many, use 'amor' over a single note)

Now, THAT scansion --
see, I don't know "Bright the vision that delighted" --
reminds me of
Tantum Ergo Sacramentum ...

Just looked it up, rather than relying on memory.
Hymn tune for "Bright The Vision" is Laus Deo
