Back in the summer I travelled round the UK and spent quite some time on the Yorkshire Coast. Whilst doing so I came across a very entertaining gentleman who sasangs

Sorry, to continue, I visited whitby and Robin hoods bay and came across a gentleman who sang and told some very comical stories, he had a unusual name, I don't think it's his real name and he was very energetic and was always dressed in shorts and vest. Does anyone know who he could be and has he recorded any of his songs as I can't find anything on social media that

NOMAD????

What is the year?
Approximate Date/week/time?
Location...church, fairgrounds, festival, wesson-party?

A snippet of lyrics?

Most importantly, WHY?

If it was summer the information about the shorts might be a bit of description put in to confuse us.??

That has to be Denis Heaney going by the description given. A well-known folk musician/singer who is actually Irish. He is still going strong, I met him in Kent in July at his granddaughter's graduation.

Ar thanks Freddy yep that video link is the guy. I saw him this summer, he had the whole pub joining in a song about ilkley Moor and it included him doing a version of singing in the rain and chanting Geoffrey boycott walks on water. Never seen anything like it. Does tour or has he any Cds. I can't find him on Social media.

If he sang a song Heather on the Moor, Heather on the Moor, a chant almost more than a song then it was Tony Morris (a bloke not a team)

No it was the guy Muppett in the video link Freddy posted, so does anyone have any more details about him,he should be a star, meet the way he worked the audience in the pub that night and his wit

There is a contact email on this page but it's five years old

If Murpholly or Padgett don't get back you could try those Facebook links above.

Description fits Muppet very well, but that he's a non-native well known in the town (though functioning out of West Yorks) is all I would add.

The mental picture of Tony Morris (who I also know) in Muppet's gear and doing his material is entertaining, to put it mildly. Tony has done a disc or two, but they don't resemble Muppet's act at all, nothing does. As far as I know Muppet has issued no recordings, though I would imagine that his local fans would love it if he did.

He used to MC & run a music session in the morning Castle in Bradford, but not seen him for a while. I liked the mystery prize quiz and raffle he did as well as silly songs

Would it be an idea to amend the title of the thread to "Muppett" or "Who is he? Muppett"

I think he spells it with 2 t's

I've sent a message to a more recent work email
with a link to here.
I suddenly realised he might not want his name and nickname and workemail address broadcasting.

I've had an email back from Muppett

...   I’m rather embarrassed and humbled by those comments.

Re. Contacting me, well I  don’t have computer access outside of work, I do have a phone, but I’m always either leaving it at home, forgetting to charge it or forgetting to switch it on.

So I just rely on face to face contact. Sometimes it can be annoying for some folk but it works for me.

... I only have access to a computer here at work and for some reason, it won’t let me make the connection to the Mudcat link you sent me.

So I’m happy for you to let Nomad know that I don’t have any CD’s as such, however I do have one track on a 17 track CD That has recently come out that I’ve been involved in putting together to raise money to keep the Dales buses running.

As well as myself there are tracks by Rum Doodle, Yan Tan Tether, The Hall Brothers, Matt Palmer and Dave Spowage and Mike Burtoft, as well as a few other folk who I can’t remember the names of.

I don’t know if Nomad is local to Bradford, but if he or she is, I’ll have copies of them for sale with me when I’m out and about, they are £10 each and all profits go to help keep the Dales bus running.

This is a service that relies on funding to run on Sundays and Bank holidays between the Towns and Cities of West Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales.

Cheers
Muppett

Nomad - I couldn't find any information on line about a Dales Bus fundraising CD, you might track down one of the bands\singers mentioned.

Yup, it’s a bit like what taking mind altering drugs must feel like, locally you won’t find much that’s more entertaining!!    :)

Hello
Does anyone have a video of Muppett singing his ‘Caving for Me’ song?
I heard him sing it in the 80s (the last time I saw him) and it was brilliant. I’d like my son to learn it now he is in a caving club.
Thank you for this thread everyone. I could identify him from the YouTube video above.
