09 Mar 19 - 02:44 PM (#3981149) Subject: Lyr Req: Can anyone help with these two songs From: GUEST,Liamtho Hi, I have been searching for two part remembered songs, the first is a joke song about a man asking three old men how they have lived so long - it includes lines like "Alcohol has never passed my lips nor smoke into my lungs, it's my recipe for long life and a way of staying young." The punch line was - " I've lived man and boy sir 23 years to the day". The other song starts - "I was travelling through a time warp on my way to Venus and Mars and the verdant hills of earth were far behind. I was free and I was easy just an earth boy on the loose when a vision of perfection blew my mind." Would love to perform these songs but I have searched everywhere for the lyrics to no avail - Google has never heard of them.... Thanks in advance... |

A note on the video by Lisa Anne Kelly: "The words to this song come from a science fiction story of the same name, written by Robert Heinlein. The song is by the character Rhysling, an aging blind spaceship engineer and legendary bard, who has traveled the solar system and is on his final journey home." |

The title and author escapes me, but cockroaches - the great survivors - were taking over the universe. It had something to do with Kurt Vonnegut. He didn't write it. They each tell of their abstinence until the last one who says that he smokes and drinks and chases women. He is then asked how long he has lived and says 23 years to the day. GH's retelling became almost the 'authorised version of that joke, though afterwards it was turned into a song too. The same story, told in two distinct ways, both very funny |
