That his music is a sheer joy completes the picture. Despite failing health, he still managed an annual booking at our club and it was always a joy to be his sound man. “Does that sound good to you Ian?” “In which case, nothing more to do. Let’s sit and chat.” His forte was slide guitar, blues. If you want to hear how he treated “folk” I suggest you listen to the excellent album he did as a commission for The BBC, Border Ballads. Stunning. Remains one of the most played albums in my whole collection. |
