18 Apr 19 - 12:35 PM (#3988024) Subject: April Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Sorry this is late -- Mudcat wasn't available on Monday and for the past two days I was visiting where there was no wi-fi. The April 2019 Press Room Shanty, Forebitter, and Foc's'l Ballad Session which would have been this Saturday, April 20th is CANCELLED...as are all future monthly Press Room shanty singarounds for the foreseeable future. What I had thought would be a viable alternative venue for the monthly shanty sing did not work out. And I've run out of both ideas and energy. This scramble has just gone on way too long -- almost continuously for close to two years. I am...disheartened. I just can't do this anymore. There are now two regular sessions south of us in Massachusetts (one weekly in Gloucester and a monthly in Newburyport) and one north of us in Portland, Maine (monthly, I think). The good news is I have a meeting set up next week with Chris Greiner, the Press Room managing partner. But don't get your hopes up -- I'll be happy if I just find out WHY he chose to shut down the session without letting me know or giving me a reason. He and the other partner keep telling Jim and I how pleased they are with our weekly Anglo-Celtic trad session on Sundays. There seem to be no problems on that front...except they are changing the hours at the end of the month to noon to 3:00 because The Press Room will be opening at 10 a.m. for Sunday Brunch. And, yes, there will be a session this Sunday, Easter Sunday, at The Press Room. The Friday session at the Continental will also be taking place as usual. Linn |
