Lyr Req: Stella

It's a beautiful song I heard many years ago from a visiting American student, the story of a poor musician singing of/to his Stella guitar.

I never got to ask the performer about it, and I've never heard it since.

Anyone know it?

Thanks.

Could it be a Leadbelly song? He called his 12-string guitar Stella.

Leadbelly's 12 string was a Stella, not his name for it.

True enough.

Vincent, can you remember any phrases from the song that might help us find it?

Sadly, I can't recall any words, Joe, just remember its beauty. It referred to the Stella make of guitar, of course, but it's not a song by Leadbelly (the only musician who I think spoke about his Stella).

Vincent, was it done by male or female? Absolutely any details you have will help. When did you hear it? Where? Etc.

Thanks for the interest - this is a great forum.

I was running the folk 'n' blues evenings in Cartmel Bar in Lancaster University (that developed out of the more formal Folk and Poetry Evenings - hence the capital letters - that the once famous English lecturer and CPGB member David Craig had started). It was around 1976-1977 - a mere 42 years ago.

It was sung by a bloke, as I say, an American lad (all I remember is that he looked a little like Jim Croce). He was almost certainly from the University of Colorado at Boulder as they had an exchange programme with Lancaster.
