13 Sep 19 - 12:01 PM (#4008674) Subject: RE: Most defiantly joyful song? From: leeneia 1. I won't link to the BBC article, because BBC music messes with my own music software. 2. I listened to part of the recording. It does not sound joyful. There is no trace of a smile in Miriam's voice, and it seems like a song of protest or ridicule. |
13 Sep 19 - 12:56 PM (#4008689) Subject: RE: Most defiantly joyful song? From: lefthanded guitar (Reposting - first post seems to have been erased) Read the BBC article ( I think) on Google, then went to the song. I did not find the story of the song depressing - thought it was upbeat and lyrical and I was amazed at how timeless it sounded. I can see why it survived so long. And it outlasted apartheid - perhaps because it was a celebration of living ( defiantly happy in the face of crushing oppression) . |

I don't either, and I've seen versions that go Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved and set me free... Nonetheless, I have told the DH that if he permits Amazing Grace to be sung at my funeral, I will come back and haunt him. |
