Lyr Req: What are these last lines from

The last lines are:

        Something the something morning
        Something the something morning
        Something the something day

In my head, I am imagining Maddy Prior of Steeleye Spann singing it, but that could be wrong. It's possibly a returning soldier and his girl-type dialogue, but I can't think of any more of the story. I can fill out the 'something's a bit, though. It's For the misty morning, or And the cloudy morning, or similar, brings in the brighter day, or dawns the sunny day, or heralds the clear new day . . .

Anyone?

The Dark-eyed Sailor:

"Young maids be true while your lover is away
For a cloudy morning
For a cloudy morning
Brings forth a sunshine day"

Here's Phil Tanner's version, which is my favourite:

"For swiftly come all the tides returning, swiftly golden and will not stay; There is no boatman can net the morning; there is no boatman can net the day." -Gordon Bok, "Boat of Silver"

Julia, it's "swifly go then", not "golden".

It is on Gordon Bok's website Timberhead, and here at Mudcat.

But with the bit about girl voices and Maddy Prior, it doesn't sound like Gordon Bok.

Mudcatters never cease to amaze me. So remarkable that someone could identify the song from such sparse clues. Well done.

Thanks for the correction Jeri= and yes, her voice is nothing like his, but there is a female voice on the recording. I also thought perhaps some lady might have covered it In any case, I was wrong oh well
