Inspired by Big Bill Broonzy, Rambling Jack Elliot, Alexis Korner, and Ewan MacColl, learning his craft from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry in the coffee bars of London’s Soho during the late fifties, busking through Europe with Rod Stewart and cited by John Renbourn and Eric Clapton as an important early influence. With his unique acoustic guitar style, an eclectic repertoire and a ‘right hand worthy of Broonzy’ Wizz continues to tour on the acoustic folk and blues circuit. We're very pleased to be welcoming Wizz back to the Goose again. Alfie Jones is a fantastic up-and-coming guitarist and singer and also Wizz's grandson. Alfie will play the support slot after the interval and then join Wizz on stage for the second half. Zach Johnson is an indie/folk singer/songwriter from South-East England, writing lyrically-driven songs that feature his intricate guitar playing and powerful vocals. He's amazing, jackknifed over his guitar, as good as it gets. The last time I went to see him, I spent half of the evening in the nearby hospital as a huge nurse lowered over me in order to remove a foreign object from my eye. God, that hurt. Fortunately, she succeeded and I got back in time for Wizz's set. I wouldn't want him to think that I remember him for all the wrong reasons! |
